Liverpool is packed full of great bars and clubs, and many of these cater for the vibrant gay and lesbian scene in the city.
The Stanley Street and Victoria Street areas of Liverpool are particularly good for gay bars and gay nightclubs, including Garlands which is a fantastically flamboyant club that is full of the brash and the beautiful and welcomes all.
Not far away you can find the G-Bar, another top Liverpool gay bar, situated on Eberle St in the hub of Liverpool city centre. The nightclub has been a mainstay of the Liverpool club scene for over a decade and is one of the city’s most famed late-night destinations, not least because it is Liverpool’s leading gay venue up until 3am, when it transforms into one of the North West’s top Underground after-hours clubbing venues.
The G-Bar is a welcome addition to Liverpool’s gay and lesbian scene and has three unique rooms including the famous Church Room, complete with church altars and churchy paraphernalia, the Basement, which is an underground haven with thunderous Bass Bins, and the all new WKD Piano Lounge. This is a refuge from the madness of the other two rooms where customers chill out and relax, listening to the resident rather ostentatious pianist.
Superstar Boudoir, as the name suggests, is a bit of a local celebrity hangout as well as leading gay Liverpool nightclub. Of all the gay bars in Liverpool, Superstar Boudoir perhaps represents best how the gay scene has developed and how the massive regeneration of Liverpool as a world-leading city now means it has a colourful nightlife to match.
It’s not unusual to spot the odd ex-soap actress or pop poppet soaking up the atmosphere as well as the bar’s offerings at this cool gay nightclub. Hostesses in drag stand on the door tempting passers-by to enter, and inside it’s a heady cocktail for the gay pre-clubber, offering feverish dancing in the main room, with a more sedate lounge off to the side. The bar is open until the early hours and attracts a huge following from a young and trendy as well as gay Liverpool crowd.
