Mother’s Day 2017
Sunday 26th March. Don’t forget that date, because that’s the date to spoil your Mum rotten.
You might even want to make a weekend out if it. Even if she says she ‘doesn’t want a fuss’, she is lying to you. Who doesn’t want to be taken on a lovely spring day out, possibly accompanied by some cutesy pink cakes and champagne? Ok, maybe not everyone likes pink, but you get the idea.
She doesn’t have to be your Mum to be treated. Does your lady spend her life running around after the little ones, or even grown up ones? Book her in for a day of guilt free relaxation. Maybe you or your friend is a Mummy-to-be, we have you sorted too.
If you’ve racked your brain for an idea or just want someone to do the hard work for you, *tsssh* then we’ve done it again. Here’s the Mother’s Day guide for 2017.
Food and Drink
As if we even need an excuse to gorge on scones, smoked salmon sandwiches, strawberries, macaroons and all the treats that come on those three tiers of heaven.
Top it all off with your Mum's favourite loose leaf tea or even something a little fizzy. We wrote another blog recently, totally focussed on Afternoon Tea. So, why not head that way now and take a look at our options, there’s everything from Beatles Themed, totally traditional to the downright crazy afternoon tea. Veggies, vegans and children are all sorted too!
For a totally amazing treat this Mother's Day, a spa day can also be accompanied by an afternoon tea. We'll tell you more about spas later on in the piece.
Food and Drink
Her Majesty’s Meal
She's royalty to you of course, if the lady is perhaps a fan of the Fab Four, then where better to take her than Blake’s Restaurant at Hard Day’s Night Hotel, the Beatles inspired hotel. They’ve a particularly special 3 course menu just for Mother’s Day (or 4 course if you count starting with a Strawberry Bellini.)
If you really do want to spoil her, then how about sleeping like a log at the aforementioned Beatles inspired hotel?
The Spring in the City package means you can 'combine luxury and exploration all in one.' This special offer price includes 2 nights in a luxury room, brekkie and cocktails and dinner on one night. From £219 for 2 nights, based on 2 sharing.
The hotel is based literally on the corner of the famous Mathew Street, home of the legendary Cavern Club, where you can top off a marvellous two days with some boogying.
Food and Drink
Take her to France
Ok don’t really, take her to France. Take her for a meal at Bistro Pierre.
Tucked up a narrow set of stairs off of Cavern Quarter is a hidden gem that is Bistro Pierre. A quaint little restaurant, that really is a little taste of France. A former warehouse building with exposed wooden flooring and brickwork is totally transformed into a rustic French bistro.
The menus are handwritten and change daily, which we love! If you’re looking for just quick lunch, then the Le Lunch Paride is just £8.50 for once course, but we’d highly recommend the 3 course lunch for just £12.95, treat Mum without burning through the wallet and don’t worry about the portion sizes, you really do get a lot for your money.
Order a French 77 and you’d never know you weren’t in Cannes.
Maybe French isn’t’ her style. There’s plenty more to choose from, right here.
Visit the Waterfront
We’re ticking so many boxes here that we can’t find a piece of paper long enough.
Despite Liverpool waterfront being probably the most picturesque part of the city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that is not all.
Want museums? There’s seven including the brand newly opened British Music Experience. Want Beatles? There’s four cold hard Beatles stood in front of you, not to mention the two museums. Ferry cross the Mersey? Check. Steak, Pizza, a slice of Cuba, it’s all within the Albert Dock. Even just a simple pick n mix is sorted at Funky Shake and Candy Bar.
She might even want a ride on the Carousel or the giant Liverpool Wheel.
Rooftop swing at The Eden
This Mother's Day, The Eden up on the roof of the Shankly Hotel are putting on the works to ensure your Mum enjoys an extra special treat this year.
For just £35 per adult and £14.95 per child, adults can enjoy bubbly on arrival, a special Elemis giftbag for Mum, a three course meal accompanied not only by panoramic views of the city but entertainment and a swing singer too!
Book yourselves in here - and us too if you don't mind?
St George's Quarter
A Cultural Queen's perfect place for a Mother's day out. There's museums, galleries and theatres.
The beautiful William Brown Street houses all culturally led buildings, including the Walker Art Gallery, the gallery is currently showing a number of free exhibitions ranging from The Pre-Raphaelites Collection, Victorian Treasures and Fashion Icons: a celebration of Gay Designers.
On the same Street is the World Museum where visitors can discover treasures from all over the world and even outer space. What's better is that it's little visitor friendly, with lots of interactive spaces for youngsters.
Choose from the Planetarium, Aquarium, Bug House, Dinosaurs Gallery, Clore Natural History Centre, Weston Discovery Centre, Natural World, World Cultures and Space and Time.
Billy Ocean at the Philharmonic Hall
I’m sure your Mum can deal with her present being a day later if it’s tickets to see the legendary Billy Ocean at Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall.
The biggest black recording star in Britain will grace the stage on Monday 27th March wowing audiences with his famous favourites such as ‘Love on Delivery’, ‘Red Light Spells Danger’ and of course ‘When The Going Gets Tough’… “the tough gets going.”
As you can imagine, tickets are selling out fast for Billy so hurry UP. Book now.
Pair it with a pre-show meal. This particular part of Liverpool is ‘#blessed’ with some of the city’s finest restaurants. From the small plate delights of Pen Factory to pub grub at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms. Renowned chef Paul Aksew’s Art School Restaurant is a 2-minute walk from the Phil and if you can, you certainly should.
An appointment with relaxation
Maybe your Mother just doesn’t want to do anything. Maybe a day relaxing is more of what she has on the cards. But what’s better than relaxing at home? Relaxing… away from home!
Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to treat her to a Spa Day. You never know, you could even make it for all of you.
Morgan’s Spa at 30 James Street - the Titanic Themed Hotel at the former headquarters of the White Star Line - is a spa like no other. The spa is open to hotel guests as well and day guests looking to escape the hustle and bustle. Private treatment rooms, sauna, a bar and a totally incredible 40 sq ft hydrotherapy pool.
This Mother’s Day there’s even a special package available; Yummy Mummy. This package costs £169 for 2 and additional guest cost £79.
