Here in Liverpool, we never take ourselves too seriously – where’s the fun in that? Internationally-recognised as having a fun-loving attitude and some of the best humour around, it’s no secret that we’re always hot on the heels of bringing people the best laughs. With these stand-up comedy venues putting on local talent as well as big names, your nights in Liverpool will never be boring, that’s for sure.

As Liverpool’s only purpose built comedy venue, Hot Water Comedy Club is the place where you’ll find live a good laugh 7 nights a week; come rain, some shine. It’s an independent comedy club in the Ropewalks areas of the city, run by two brothers, which originally began as a weekly comedy night to round off the weekend on a high, and it grew from there. Once they began adding a few more nights, shows were selling out and they just needed a whole lot more space (told you we love a giggle around here). With a bar and restaurant here, there’s no excuse but to make a night of it – plus there’s plenty of weeks where they offer FREE shows. Promise, we’re not pulling your leg.

If you thought that Albert Dock was just the hub for incredible bars, restaurants and attractions you’re mistaken. It’s also the center of comedy. Held downstairs in the basement of the Albert Dock’s ‘Baby Blue’ every weekend, you’ll see some of the best comedians on the circuit at Liverpool Comedy Central. With meal offers available from restaurants around the Albert Dock it’s the perfect comedy venue if you want to sample a night of laughter amidst one of Liverpool’s stunning waterfront locations.

Rubber Soul Complex

Let’s be honest, you were going to make the trip to the iconic Mathew Street anyway; so why not hit up the best in the biz when it comes to laughs? This legendary Rubber Soul Bar in the heart of the original birth street of The Beatles hosts comedy on the first Thursday of every month – with both local talent as well as UK comedians. It’s a loud and lively venue that echoes the whole spirit of Liverpool – you’ll feel right at home amongst the local crowd.

The Brink

Not your average bar and restaurant, The Brink on Parr Street is Liverpool’s first dry bar and café and there is ALWAYS something exciting happening. The regular Sunday night comedy is all about soup, song and stand up and it’s a great way to wind down from a weekend that might have been heavy on the ale. But make no mistake, you’ll be leaving with your sides sore from laughing instead. Plus, with live sets along with DJs and music all the time, you can stay all week if you wish.

It’s a tricky game, putting on a comedy night. With a decade’s experience selling comedy to sell out crowds, the people behind Laughterhouse have made Liverpool laugh for absolutely years. They pick the right venues for the right comedians, representing some of the finest talent in the UK. If comedy is a must-see on your visit to Liverpool, we definitely recommend finding out where Laughterhouse have events on around the city, whether it's The Slaughter House or Hangar 34. Buy a ticket, grab a meal deal and spend the evening with some of the funniest people around.

Liverpool Comedy Improv

Get down tomorrow at 7 for this sick JoD launch show then yeah???

Let’s face it, people are funnier when it’s all spontaneous. If scripted comedy isn’t your thing then no fear! Drop-in to Liverpool’s successful Monday night improv where you’ll be envious of how witty and on the ball these guys are on the spot. Or why not try it yourself? Have an idea, make up a scene and just go with it. Check the website for details of upcoming gigs, it’s often held in smaller rooms and venues, like The Ship & Mitre or 81 Renshaw Street.

Liverpool Echo Arena

It's sunny down at #echoarena today! Who's coming soon? 😝

Yep, we couldn’t make this list without including the world-class venue that houses the mighty names of belly laughs, such as Michael McIntyre, Russell Brand and Sarah Millican. Basically, if you’re on a comedy pilgrimage, Echo Arena is your Mecca. The only thing we’ll say is make sure you book early or as soon as possible because their ‘sold-out’ rate is no laughing matter. Grab some grub by the Albert Dock and then make your way over to the Arena to leave any worries well and truly behind.
