The Blackie

The Blackie was established as Britain's first community arts project - a fusion of a community centre and an arts centre. Described as 'a bridge across troubled waters' - linking disadvantaged communities to creative opportunities - the commitment is to ' Quality & Equality' and is delivered through community -focused work dedicated to the principles of access, positive action, education, participation and cultural diversity.

Our newly refurbished building and unique space will offer a broader range of programmes and events ranging from Aerial Theatre, World Music, Hip Hop Breakin convention, Summer Youth Arts Programme, Exhibitions and Sports Tournaments ie Squash.
