John Smith's Grand National 2009

The John Smith's Grand National is one of the biggest sporting and social events in the UK, an estimated 150,000 people attended the three day event in 2008, with an estimated audience of 600 million watching it at home on television, making it one of the most-televised sporting events in the world.

Over the last few years, £35million has been invested in Aintree Racecourse's world-class facilities to increase its capacity, introduce two new permanent grandstands, an international equestrian centre, a new weighing room and winner's enclosure.

The 2009 meeting opens on the Thursday, when thousands of visitors will kick off three days of celebrations and world-class racing at Aintree. Friday is Ladies' Day, which is one of the most colourful days of the event as well as being one of the style highlights of England's Northwest. The crescendo of the meeting is when the world-famous John Smith's Grand National is run on the Saturday with excitement and anticipation in abundance. 2009 will see the return of the now famous Style Enclosure, with style 2009, the ultimate style competition, promising its biggest prizes ever.
