Beyond the vibrant city centre of Liverpool the Mersey Estuary has over 57 kilometres of stunning beaches and coastline which includes Sefton's Natural Coast and the Wirral Peninsula. The perfect location for a short break in the uk, the region also boasts a rich variety of inland habitats ranging from fields and hedgerows to woodland, heath and moorland - great for days out in the north west.

Days out in Merseyside can be spent observing the remarkable variety of birds, animals and plants with many important species being regularly recorded throughout a wealth of designated Sites of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI).

Meanwhile, for yet another reason why you should experience days out in Liverpool, it is one of the few places in the UK where you COMMONSEAL can be guaranteed a sight of the endangered native red squirrel and there are many other places in the region where work is being undertaken to protect our plant and animal species. Here you can also find Britain's largest herd of African elephants at Knowsley Safari Park and Europe's only National Wildflower Centre. All this and more make the Mersey Coast and Countryside excellent for country weekend breaks.
