Operation of Merseyside's Tourism Industry

The 'destination amalgam' of Merseyside (Cooper et al.1998: 103) consists of a wide range of organisations which all contribute to the operation of tourism at the destination. These are discussed in this section of the website, but you may also find 'Investigating Leisure and Tourism in Merseyside' useful.

Some of these organisations (such as Liverpool City Council), are public sector organisations, many are private sector businesses, some are in the voluntary sector, and others are partnerships between the various sectors. The Mersey Partnership itself provides an example of the latter.

For information on The Mersey Partnership's activities, see TMP's annual report. TMP's activities relate not just to tourism sector, but also economic development, marketing, and investment. For the latest news on promoting the Liverpool city region, see 'Reflecting Merseyside' (available to download).

Merseyside as a tourist destination consists of Liverpool, Wirral, Knowsley, Sefton, St.Helens and Halton. For more information on the characteristics of these boroughs, see the 'Investigating Leisure and Tourism ' section.
