Many Liverpool restaurants pride themselves on using local Liverpool produce and locally sourced fine foods, of which there is an abundance, and there are also numerous farm shops peddling local Liverpool produce direct.

Liverpool and Liverpool City Region produce some of the finest food and drink in the UK, from rarebreed meats and freshly caught fish to quality fruit and vegetables and locally-brewed beer.

Paul Askew, the head chef at top Hope Street eaterie London Carriage Works, is Liverpool’s very own food champion and insists on using high quality local Liverpool produce wherever possible. This has become central to the identity of his restaurant.

There are also several farm shops and farmers markets that sell local produce. Liverpool city centre hosts five farmers markets each month in various locations including Lark Lane, Hope Street and University Square. The Wirral Farmers’ Market in New Brighton is a popular choice with over 30 stalls offering everything from ostrich to olives! Foodies must also schedule a visit to Delifonseca, which now has two Liverpool outlets offering the widest range of seasonal fruit and vegetables, artisan cheeses and speciality meats.

Liverpool and Liverpool city region is also famous for various local dishes, all of which are widely available, from the fabled Scouse (a form of lamb stew served with red cabbage or beetroot – now on offer at the Malmaison in Liverpool), to Southport’s renowned potted shrimps and the Wirral Peninsula’s asparagus.
