Liverpool is a particularly rich area for family connections and shared heritage. Demographic changes during the 20th century led to mass migration of people with Liverpool roots and it's no exaggeration to say that today you can find 'scousers' all over the world. Liverpool was also the port of passage for some 9 million emigrants between 1830 and 1930 from all over Europe to the Americas, Australia and New Zealand.
Liverpool, Maritime Mercantile City was inscribed onto UNESCO's World Heritage list in 2004. According to UNESCO Liverpool is seen as:-
"The supreme example of a commercial port at the time of Britain's greatest global significance."
