Home > The Robert Cains Brewery
A splendid Victorian brewery producing a range of award winning beers. Tours include buffet and 2 pints in the Brewery Tap public house, next to the brewery.
Up by the banks of the River Mersey two Asian brothers are intent upon building a brewing business to rival the Greatest Craft Brewers of the World.
Sudarghara and Ajmail Dusanj took up this mission when they stepped in to save Liverpool’s historic Robert Cain Brewery from closure in 2002. From the first business they stepped into – A Fish & Chip Shop, quality ingredients has been the key driver in everything they do even today, their vision is to become Britain’s Favourite Beer Company.
The brewery – known affectionately as the ‘terracotta palace’ has a very rich history dating back to 1850 when it was the first established by Irish immigrant Robert Cain to quench the thirst of a thriving seaport. The present Stanhope Street building, a short distance from the now rejuvenated waterfront dates back to 1887. But it is certainly no museum. Behind the imposing redbrick façade it is now one of the most modern and fastest growing breweries in the UK. And it even has its own water supply from a spring that the brothers ‘rediscovered’ under the brewery.
To witness the canning production line in action, operating at an amazing rate of 1640 cans a minute, is to be very impressed. To see the Huppman equipped brew-house- a ‘Rolls Royce of the industry’ – where you can observe the beers’ progress through glass window is to be fascinated. To climb the stairs to the original former hop store is to be more than a little stunned, with both magnificent ceramic Victorian craftsmanship and the breathtaking views over the Mersey.
Robert Cain was proud of his brewery. That mantle of pride – ‘you have got to live it’- is now clearly worn by the present incumbents of the Terracotta Place, who also came to a new city to start a new business. We can look forward with relish to some great beers from Liverpool.
