Southport, affectionately
known as England's Golfing Capital on England's Golf Coast, boasts 15 top golf courses, six of which are championship standard. The most famous is Royal Birkdale, which will play host to The Open Championship again in 2008.
For sailing, windsurfing, powerboating, waterskiing and rowing action - just head to Marine Lake or south to Crosby Marina.
Back on dry land there's just as much to keep you occupied, with a choice of tennis, crown and flat green bowling, horse riding, croquet and cricket.
Southport's newest attraction is set to open on Saturday 30
June in time for the busy summer school holiday period. Splash World is an £8.5 million aqua park on Southport's Esplanade.
The park will maintain a tropical 84 degrees Fahrenheit throughout the year, so summer or winter you can enjoy all the slides and water attractions - no matter what the weather is doing outside.
