Mention the name 'Liverpool' to almost anyone, anywhere in the world, and their almost instant reaction will be 'football'. The Northwest is a hotbed of footballing success, with seven Premiership clubs; the homes of two of them, Everton and Liverpool, are just minutes from Liverpool City Centre.

Arena Sports

ACC Liverpool opens in 2008 and with its opening it brings an array of sporting events never before hosted in Liverpool. Some events in its first year are the British International Supercross Championship, Dunlop British Open Squash, World Firefighter Games and more will continue to be announced as time goes on.

Horse Racing in Liverpool

The Grand National horse race is the
world's most-watched Grand National image sporting event, with an annual audience of 600 million. Haydock Park a premier
dual-purpose racecourse, boasting an active and energetic year-round racing calendar that includes both flat and jumping fixtures.

More exciting sports

But scratch the surface, and there's a huge range of sports on offer: rugby league continues to rise in popularity, led Tennis Tournament image by St.Helens Saints and Widnes Vikings, while the Liverpool International Tennis Tournament attracts some of the world's top tennis talents, including Goran Ivanisevic, Pat Cash and Xavier Malisse. This May saw the first Liverpool 08 Squash Tournament at St George's Hall, and the event is expected to grow to form a major event in the world squash calendar.
