HERITAGE OPEN DAYS - Exploring the Archives

Catalyst is housed in Grade II listed building which formerly housed Gossages Soap Works. Our unique event takes you behind the scenes into the archives, not normally open to the public. Take a look at our historical maps, books and various other items from our extensive collection.

Tuesday 16th and Thursday 18th September 2008 from 10.00am – 4.00pm

Catalyst will run 4 x hour long sessions (maximum of 20 people, aged 16+ per session) during the day 10.00am, 11.30am, 1.00pm and 2.30pm. Telephone 0151 420 1121 to book places.

The archive event will be open free of charge, however access to the other galleries will be charged as normal.
Adults £4.95, Children or Concessions £3.95 or family Ticket £15.95

The public cafeteria will be open so people may purchase beverages and snacks if they wish. The café is open to the general public without paying admission to the galleries.

Catalyst has a large free car park with disabled parking bays or set down parking on the adjacent road.

We have level access to all areas and a lift to all floors. Induction loop on first floor where there is video footage and accessible toilet facilities.

Road Directions

Catalyst is located in Widnes, Cheshire just minutes from the Runcorn/Widnes bridge. It is easily accessible from junction 7 M62 or junction 12 M56. Head towards Widnes then follow the brown and white tourism signs. Nearest Railway station is Runcorn then take bus (14, 79c, 62 or 110) one stop over bridge and alight at Irwell street. Walk down slope and through underpass, continue on Irwell Street (50m) until it meets Mersey Road, turn left and Catalyst is on the right, 200m down Mersey Road.

Public Transport Directions

By train
Get any train to RUNCORN from Lime Street or any of the intermediate stations (Edge Hill, Mossley Hill, West Allerton, Allerton) then get any local bus back across the bridge (14, 79, 32A [132 Sundays], 61, 62, 110 very frequent in the daytime including Sundays) one stop to Irwell St. Walk down the slope and through the underpass to Irwell St.
