Taste Liverpool
There is plenty of fine dining and good food to be had in Liverpool, and the city is spreading the word via Taste Liverpool, an initiative aimed at promoting food tourism to the region.
Taste Liverpool is effectively a quality scheme that unites over 40 restaurants across Liverpool and Liverpool City Region which consistently provide good food and a high quality eating experience.
Trained national assessors make a mystery visit to the restaurant and report on a wide variety of areas, from cleanliness to level of service and, of course, the food itself. Each participating restaurant receives a written Taste Liverpool report and an overall score.
Liverpool’s top rated Taste Liverpool restaurants include The London Carriage Works on Hope Street, a leading Liverpool eaterie with an emphasis firmly on local food, and 60 Hope Street just down the road, a fine dining establishment serving meals made from the freshest in-season ingredients. Sheldrakes in Heswall on the Wirral, which offers spectacular views of the Dee as well as really good food, also scores highly, as does Il Forno, Liverpool’s first authentic Italian restaurant.
The Taste Liverpool second tier of Quality Assured restaurants include Chilla Banana, for authentic Thai food, Christakis Greek Taverna, which has been serving up good Greek food for the past 28 years in a listed Victorian building, and The Monro, a highly recommended gastropub and The Lawns Restaurant, located in the Thornton Hall hotel on the Wirral Pennisula.
