There are over SIXTY concerts on during the long weekend, ranging from intimate gigs in cocktail bars and trattorias to Victoria Hart, 'The jazz singing waitress' at the Southport Theatre and Convention Centre. She wowed George Clooney, Brad Pitt and other A-list stars on board a yacht in Cannes in May 2007 and we even have the FIRST ever Jazz Festival pub quiz and dating event! There really is something for everyone, a World of jazz at just ONE destination - Southport International Jazz Festival.

Celebrate ’08 culture in style by joining us at the largest Jazz Festival Southport’s ever seen! There’s a host of great music to get your teeth into throughout the town along with some venues in neighbouring areas. The festival prides itself on making the experience available for everyone by ensuring that a massive EIGHTY PERCENT of concerts are FREE. The Southport International Jazz Festival launched its headlining artists for 2008, at the Jazz on a Winter’s Weekend event in February.

Thursday 29th May, 8pm - Southport Arts Centre, Theatre
Guitarist John Williams teams up with a guitar virtuoso from the jazz world – England’s John Etheridge to perform a set that draws upon their mutual fascination with the musical bridges between the ethnic traditions of Madagascar, the countries of Africa’s west coast, and the Americas.

Friday 30th May, 7.30pm - Southport Arts Centre, Theatre
Jazz Idol – The Final returning from last year, the Sefton Music Service presents the Jazz idol which will see live performances with the Sefton Youth Jazz Orchestra.

Monica Vasconcelos: “In some respects she is like a curator of Brazilian music, rediscovering her compatriots' sound and reinterpreting it in a coolly individual way”, The Guardian

Bacalao Dance Party is the definitive line up of the South's finest salsa outfit is coming to light, bouncing audiences off the wall and delighting the pleasure seekers.

Down to the Bone is an acid jazz group led by DJ Stuart Wade, who formed the band with Chris Morgans in 1996. They are hailed in the UK as the kings of UK jazz groove. Their music is a mix of soul, funk and jazz.

With people visiting from as far away as Canada, we think the word is out that there is Just ONE Destination - Southport International Jazz Festival...........
