The Art of Doctor Who

A brand new exhibition has been created for fans of the iconic TV show Doctor Who – and it will be shown for the very first time at Spaceport in Merseyside.

In the first exhibition of its kind, visitors to ‘The Art Of Doctor Who’ will have the chance to see just how Doctor Who is created from the first script to the final television programme.

The exhibition, which will be double the size of the Doctor Who Up Close exhibition held at Spaceport last year, opens on Friday May 23rd 2008.

It will showcase many of the actual props, costumes and monsters from the hit BBC series, together with some intriguing insights into how the programme is made.

Visitors will be able to use interactive touch-screens, see exhibits on the craft behind monster making and catch up with what exactly goes on behind the scenes.

The displays will feature the expertise behind many production areas – from special effects and CGI, to make-up and costume.

And the infamous Daleks will also be on show, alongside the TARDIS and many of the Time lord’s age-old enemies, including a Cyberman and the Sontaran.

Councillor Mark Dowd, Chair of Merseytravel, which owns and operates Spaceport and the Mersey Ferries, said: “Spaceport is an ideal home for Doctor Who, and we know this exhibition will be a huge success.

“This exhibition is a major coup for Spaceport and the first time some of the exhibits will ever have been seen. It will include many characters from the latest TV series.

“Since Spaceport opened it has become a major attraction with visitors from both around the region and from throughout the UK. It is making a valuable contribution to tourism on Merseyside.”

The exhibition opens on Friday May 23 2008 for a seven-month run.
