An area of 30 hectares in the heart of Liverpool docks at the mouth of the Mersey, comprising a freshwater and a saltwater lagoon surrounded by tipped infill.
The site is nationally and internationally important for seabirds and waders, has large numbers of ducks in winter and is nationally important for spring passage little gulls.
Three viewing hides are located by the freshwater lagoon.
Seaforth and Waterloo rail stations are close by and buses from Liverpool stop at Seaforth Dock entrance.
