Carmen Cortés

Gerardo Núñez is without doubt the world's greatest flamenco guitarist active today. His wife, Carmen Cortés, is one of the most celebrated flamenco dancers and choreographers of all time. Join them for a night of unforgettable music, dance and flamenco passion.

Núñez is considered one of the best guitarists, of all genres, in the world today. He plays deeply emotional traditional Flamenco at an amazing speed, but can also venture into jazz, Latin music and other genres with ease. He studied at the Cátedra de Flamencología (Flamencology School) in southern Spain, the only music school in Spain with a department exclusively dedicated to Flamenco music.

When he moved to Madrid he played with the famous Mario Maya Dance Company, where he met his wife, the world class dancer Carmen Cortés. Having toured internationally with the Mario Maya Dance Company from a young age Cortés later formed her own dance company, the Compañía de Danza Flamenca Carmen Cortés, creating Flamenco productions based on the literary works of Yerma by Federico García Lorca and Salomé by Oscar Wilde.

Despite having their own very successful and separate careers, when Núñez and Cortés perform together there is a dynamic and heightened level of communication between two world class artists that can only come from the closeness of husband and wife. It makes for a fascinating and breath-taking Flamenco show.

Road Directions

If you are coming to Liverpool on the M62, finding the Philharmonic Hall is straightforward. Continue along the motorway until its end and then follow the signs for the city centre, cathedrals and universities (about 3 miles). Turn left at the Metropolitan Cathedral and head past the Everyman Theatre along Hope Street.

If lost, use this maxim: find one cathedral, head for the other. The Phil is halfway between the two.
