St. Peter's Church present building was built in 1736 and is a Grade 1 listed building. This replaced an earlier chapel from the early 16th century.
In the churchyard is the grave of “Chloe Gambia" who came to Liverpool on a Slave ship when she was around 7 years old.
Chloe was baptised in the church on 17th May 1767 and died on 12th September 1838 aged 77 years or thereabouts.
She lived in the Aston family for 70 years being the playmate for the Aston family children and later the family's housekeeper.
Take a chance to have a look at the documents that are proofing Chloe's existence, who must have been a very special person those days.
Times: Open on 13th and 20th September at 10.30pm – 4pm. Other times by appointment. For further information, please get in touch with Joan on 0151 425 4514
