CELEBRATE A GREAT CULTURE YEAR AT ST GEORGE’S HALL
Liverpool’s magnificent St George’s Hall is to stage a new festive events programme to celebrate the city’s hugely successful reign as European Capital of Culture.
The St George’s Hall festivities will see the return of last year’s extremely popular ice rink, a new Santa’s grotto and the chance to have lunch in the magnificent surroundings of the Great Hall.
Councillor Warren Bradley, Leader of Liverpool City Council, said: “We are delighted to be able to offer a unique festive experience to mark the end of what has been a fantastic year for the city.
“The hall has played such a huge role in the celebrations including the Capital of Culture opening ceremony, Her Majesty the Queen’s visit, the Viennese balls and the Go Superlambanana auction.
“It’s fitting that this magnificent building is playing a major part in the 2008 climax with a fantastic selection of festive events to suit everyone.”
This year’s 12 metre by 12 metre synthetic ice rink will be inside the Great Hall and will be open daily from Friday, December 19 until Saturday, January 4. (Closed Christmas day, boxing day and new years day).
The last skate is 6.10pm daily and must be pre-booked. – bookings line is open 10am – 5pm
It closes early New Years Eve - Last skate is at 3.10pm.
The new Santa Experience will give youngsters the chance to spend half an hour with Father and Mother Christmas in their specially prepared grotto in the Heritage Centre.
Up to 30 children can listen to Santa talk about the story of Christmas and also how to prepare for the big day.
Father Christmas will be in his grotto from Wednesday, December 3 until Monday, December 22. However, he is not available on Thursdays as he is in Lapland putting the finishing touches to his gifts.
Also new this year is the chance to dine in the Grade I listed Great Hall with a locally inspired menu with all the trimmings with entertainment on December 12, 14, 17 and 22 December.
