Home > Your priceless Liverpool events guide > Wally Fields Jazz Orchestra - Rhapsody in Blue
A welcome return for this superb and internationally acclaimed orchestra with its inspiring tribute to the genius of George Gershwin and featuring the renowned concert pianist James Pearson and conductor Paul Eshelby.
A full supporting programme of the classical jazz of Artie Shaw and Benny Goodman captures all the elegance and excitement of the great Carnegie Hall concerts of the 1940's which this evening under the baton of the charismatic and inspirational Paul Eshelby is brought back to life; and features the awesome talents of the band's jazz soloists.
The evening includes performances of Gershwin's spine-chilling Concerto in F (third movement), American in Paris; and the original Jazz Orchestral version of Rhapsody in Blue as performed at it's New York premiere in 1924.
The Orchestra will also feature some of the original compositions of Bandleader Wally Fields including his "Concerto in Jazz" and "Partizan Rhapsody" which were enthusiastically received by our audience at last years artistically acclaimed performance.
The evening concludes with the World Premiere of the specially commissioned anthem "Born to Dream" in tribute to the Great City of Liverpool.

If you are coming to Liverpool on the M62, finding the Philharmonic Hall is straightforward. Continue along the motorway until its end and then follow the signs for the city centre, cathedrals and universities (about 3 miles). Turn left at the Metropolitan Cathedral and head past the Everyman Theatre along Hope Street.
If lost, use this maxim: find one cathedral, head for the other. The Phil is halfway between the two.
Philharmonic Hall is situated on Hope Street, approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the city centre. The main entrance is situated on Hope Street at the junction where Hardman Street meets Hope Street opposite the Philharmonic Public House. It is close to Central Station, Lime Street Station, Myrtle Street bus stops and several car parks.
