The 8th annual Wirral Tourism Awards for Excellence is YOUR opportunity to recognise and reward the individuals who have given that extra something to welcome visitors to Wirral.

The 6th Annual Wirral Tourism Awards for Excellence consists of eleven specific categories:
MOST PROFESSSIONAL WAITING ON TEAM: Sponsored by Wirral Investment Network
This category is for waiting on staff who perform to the highest standards of service and deliver under considerable pressures, whatever the circumstances, with consistency and to a high level. They will be good
communicators and should be able to offer advice to diners on their menus and a service second to none.
MOST WELCOMING RECEPTIONIST: Sponsored by Wirral Direct
Often the first contact for the visitor/ tourist, a helpful and welcoming receptionist certainly leaves a lasting impression. Your receptionist should be able to show good local knowledge of Wirral and exceed customer expectations. This award is open to all tourism businesses, including attractions, restaurants and hotels.
MOST PROFESSIONAL BAR TEAM
Personality and good communications can enhance bar service beyond merely filling a glass. Staff should be good listeners and offer a professional service under pressure, whilst keeping a good sense of humour, thereby promoting a happy and safe social environment.
MOST HELPFUL RETAIL ASSISTANT: Sponsored by The Grange & Pyramid Shopping Centre
A customer’s experience can be enhanced by the professionalism of the retail assistant who often goes to great lengths to assist their client. This category applies to an employee in any retail environment from high street shops to museum gift shops.
THE WIRRAL WELCOME AWARD: Sponsored by Scientiam Ltd
This award is open to all front of house and support staff who work in museums, galleries, heritage sites, country parks, theatres, and tourist attractions, and can include guides, taxi drivers or transport staff. This person will provide an invaluable service to those who visit, work or live in Wirral have excellent knowledge of their venue and other Wirral attractions and will be committed to putting the customer first.
THE UNSEEN HERO: Sponsored by Merseytravel
This person will emerge from the army of hidden workers within our industry upon whom the whole business often relies. Porters, chambermaids, glass washers, cleaners and administration staff working in the tourism sector – all of whom work tirelessly and are largely unseen by the guests and visitors.
CHEF OF THE YEAR - HOME GROWN CHEF SHINE: Sponsored by The Wirral News
The finalists for this category will take part in a ‘cook-off’, which will be open to public attendance. See Wirral News for details.
STUDENT/APPRENTICE OF THE YEAR: Sponsored by The Learning Skills Council
This award recognises individuals who are successfully developing the skills needed to work in the Hospitality and Tourism Industry. Attributes should include excellent personal presentation, ability to be flexible and adapt to different situations and high levels of commitment to their work including attendance and punctuality. This category is open to students and those on recognised work based training or apprenticeship including NVQs.
TEAM OF THE YEAR: Sponsored by The Mersey Partnership
This category is open to all organisations directly or indirectly involved in tourism that has demonstrated outstanding teamwork. The goal or objective should be to provide excellent customer service within their
organisation and portray Wirral in a positive light.
THE HERITAGE/CULTURE VOLUNTEER OF THE YEAR 2007
This category is for volunteers working in Heritage/Tourism/Culture sector in Wirral. This person will make a significant contribution in their chosen field, show dedication and knowledge of their attraction and of the local area. This can include those involved in historic sites, events, countryside and coastal areas or cultural activities etc. F
THE WIRRAL TOURISM AMBASSADOR AWARD: Sponsored by Wirral Council
This award is to recognise an individual who has made a significant contribution to Tourism in Wirral. This person could be a Senior Manager or Businessperson - someone who has used their experience, enthusiasm and influence to raise the profile of Tourism in Wirral.
