A Sporting City Region

Liverpool City Region has a wealth of sporting history that goes back centuries.

Premier League rivals Liverpool FC and Everton FC are separated by one mile park (for now) in their homes Anfield and Goodison. With Everton’s brand new stadium on Bramley Moore Dock due to open in 2024, it will sit on the banks of the Mersey River and have a capacity of nearly 53,000. Let’s not forget Tranmere.

Since 1836, Liverpool has hosted the world’s most famous horse race, the Grand National at Aintree racecourse. This race is alongside other meetings throughout the year at Aintree and Haydock racecourse.

St Helens is home to Rugby League stars St Helens RLFC (Saints) and in close proximity to other top rugby teams.

Alongside football, rugby and horse racing Liverpool City Region is also part of England's Golf Coast, hosting the Open in Wirral in 2023.
