Liverpool is known for its sport particularly football. Yet football isn’t the only type of sport that’s popular in the city region and beyond. We’re also close by to a number of the best rugby league teams in the country. Under an hour away is Langtree Park the home of ‘The Saints’, St Helens Rugby Football Club. Just a half an hour drive away from Liverpool’s City Centre or 30 minutes on the Northern Line and you could be enjoying a sport that the North West excels at, Rugby League.
Another Rugby League topping team is Warrington Wolves, whose home ground The Halliwell Jones Stadium is just half an hour away from Liverpool, in Cheshire. Warrington is a mainly industrial town that is united in support for the Rugby Club that began 140 years ago. Both St Helens and Warrington Wolves play in the Super League.
For more rugby of a different kind, head over to AJ Bell Stadium for some Rugby Union from the Sale Sharks of the Aviva Premiership, around an hour’s drive from Liverpool.
