St Matthew Passion

Overview
Filled with emotion, a survivor of great and terrible events tells his tale. As he sings of his friend’s betrayal and killing, the ancient tragedy comes startlingly alive. Other voices tell their stories, a great chorus becomes an angry crowd, and even the listeners become part of the unfolding drama. This is Bach’s St Matthew Passion, and it’s simply overwhelming. Whatever your own beliefs, trust us: you’ve never heard sacred music like this. It’s more like a Shakespeare tragedy than anything you’ll find in a hymn book.
Join us, and open your heart to one of western music’s most powerful – and transforming - experiences.

Road Directions
If you are coming to Liverpool on the M62, finding Liverpool Philharmonic is straightforward. Continue along the motorway until its end and then follow the signs for the city centre, cathedrals and universities (about 3 miles). Turn left at the Metropolitan Cathedral and head past the Everyman Theatre along Hope Street. If lost, use this maxim: find one cathedral, head for the other. Liverpool Philharmonic is halfway between the two.
Public Transport Directions
Liverpool Philharmonic is a 10 minute walk from both Lime Street Station and Central Station.
