Mother’s Day 2018

Sunday 11th March. Don’t forget that date, because that’s the date to spoil your Mum rotten.

You might even want to make a weekend out if it. Even if she says she ‘doesn’t want a fuss’, she is lying to you. Who doesn’t want to be taken on a lovely spring day out, possibly accompanied by some cutesy pink cakes and champagne? Ok, maybe not everyone likes pink, but you get the idea.

She doesn’t have to be your Mum to be treated. Does your lady spend her life running around after the little ones, or even grown up ones? Book her in for a day of guilt free relaxation. Maybe you or your friend is a Mummy-to-be, we have you sorted too.

If you’ve racked your brain for an idea or just want someone to do the hard work for you, *tsssh* then we’ve done it again. Here’s the Mother’s Day guide for 2018.

Food and Drink

Afternoon tea

Cake heaven 😍🥂🎂🍰💞 #afternoontea #ohmeohmy

As if we even need an excuse to gorge on scones, smoked salmon sandwiches, cakes and all the treats that come on those three tiers of heaven.

Top it all off with your Mum's favourite loose leaf tea or even something a little fizzy. We wrote another blog recently, totally focussed on Afternoon Tea. So, why not head that way now and take a look at our options, there’s everything from Beatles Themed, totally traditional to the downright crazy afternoon tea. Veggies, vegans and children are all sorted too!

For a totally amazing treat this Mother's Day, a spa day can also be accompanied by an afternoon tea. We'll tell you more about spas later on in the piece.

Her Majesty’s Meal

She's royalty to you of course, if the lady is perhaps a fan of the Fab Four, then where better to take her than Blake’s Restaurant at Hard Day’s Night Hotel, the Beatles inspired hotel. They’ve a particularly special 3 course menu just for Mother’s Day (or 4 course if you count starting with a Strawberry Bellini.)

If you really do want to spoil her, then how about sleeping like a log at the aforementioned Beatles inspired hotel?

The Spring in the City package means you can 'combine luxury and exploration all in one.' This special offer price includes 2 nights in a luxury room, brekkie and cocktails and three-course dinner on one night. From £229 for 2 nights, based on 2 sharing.

The hotel is based literally on the corner of the famous Mathew Street, home of the legendary Cavern Club, where you can top off a marvellous two days with some boogying.

Take her to France

Ok don’t really, take her to France. Take her for a meal at Bistro Pierre.

Tucked up a narrow set of stairs off of Cavern Quarter is a hidden gem that is Bistro Pierre. A quaint little restaurant, that really is a little taste of France. A former warehouse building with exposed wooden flooring and brickwork is totally transformed into a rustic French bistro.

The menus are handwritten and change daily, which we love! If you’re looking for just quick lunch, then the Le Lunch Paride is just £8.50 for once course, but we’d highly recommend the 3 course lunch for just £11.90, treat Mum without burning through the wallet and don’t worry about the portion sizes, you really do get a lot for your money.

Order a French 77 and you’d never know you weren’t in Cannes.

Maybe French isn’t’ her style. There’s plenty more to choose from, right here.

A good old Sunday Roast

Over at Slim's Pork Chop Express, the generous team will be spoiling all mums with a complimentary glass of prosecco to be enjoyed with their Sunday Roast. Again, the famous Sunday Roast at Slim's Pork Chop is always booked up in advance, so guests should be sure to reserve online to avoid disappointment.

Liverpool's only Rodizio style pizza restaurant, Santa Maluco, is offering a treat for the whole family with a staggeringly good unlimited pizza and prosecco deal for just £25 a head. Pizza and prosecco lovers can enjoy a diverse range of delicious toppings, featuring everything from the flavoursome 'What the Duck', to the vegetarian 'Leonardo Da Veggie', all of which can be washed down with bottomless fizz. Guests should book ahead to avoid disappointed mums!

Santa Maluco is also offering something for the early birds of the mum world - and anyone that pre-books in to try the fantastic new brunch menu, as part of the collaboration with Bold Street Coffee, will get 10% of all food on Mother's Day. For mums that love a good brunch menu, this is one not to be missed.

Days Out

Visit the Waterfront

hello liverpool!

We’re ticking so many boxes here that we can’t find a piece of paper long enough.

Despite Liverpool waterfront being probably the most picturesque part of the city and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, that is not all.

Want museums? There’s seven including the brand newly opened British Music Experience. Want Beatles? There’s four cold hard Beatles stood in front of you, not to mention the two museums. Ferry cross the Mersey? Check. Steak, Pizza, a slice of Cuba, it’s all within the Albert Dock. Even just a simple pick n mix is sorted at Funky Shake and Candy Bar.

She might even want a ride on the Carousel or the giant Liverpool Wheel.

St George's Quarter

A Cultural Queen's perfect place for a Mother's day out. There's museums, galleries and theatres.

The beautiful William Brown Street houses all culturally led buildings, including the Walker Art Gallery. On the same Street is the World Museum where visitors can discover treasures from all over the world and even outer space. What's better is that it's little visitor friendly, with lots of interactive spaces for youngsters.

Choose from the Planetarium, Aquarium, Bug House, Dinosaurs Gallery, Clore Natural History Centre, Weston Discovery Centre, Natural World, World Cultures and Space and Time.

Did we also mention the Empire Theatre? The theatre offers pre-dining packages for you and Mum to really make the most of your day. Find out what's on here.

A trip to the Theatre

I’m sure your Mum can deal with her present being a day later if it’s tickets to see the West End spectacular, Wicked.

The award winning musical is touring the UK throughout 2018, and will grace Liverpool Empire Theatre from 7th-31st March. Wicked tells the incredible untold story of an unlikely but profound friendship between two young women who first meet as sorcery students. Their extraordinary adventures on Oz will ultimately see them fulfil their destinies as Glinda The Good and the Wicked Witch of the West.

This unforgettable musical transports audiences to a stunningly re-imagined world of Oz, providing marvels beyond your imagination…

As you can imagine, tickets are selling out fast so hurry UP. Book now.

Pair it with a pre-show meal. This particular part of Liverpool is ‘#blessed’ with some of the city’s finest restaurants. From the small plate delights of Pen Factory to pub grub at the Philharmonic Dining Rooms. But if you want a meal before the show then you cant get much closer than inside the theatre. Liverpool Empire and Everyman Theatre both have their own bistro's with Pre-Theatre dining deals.

An appointment with relaxation

The luxurious Morgan's Spa located under our hotel 💆🏻

A post shared by 30 James Street (@30jamesst) on

Maybe your Mother just doesn’t want to do anything. Maybe a day relaxing is more of what she has on the cards. But what’s better than relaxing at home? Relaxing… away from home!

Mother’s Day is the perfect opportunity to treat her to a Spa Day. You never know, you could even make it for all of you.

Morgan’s Spa at 30 James Street - the Titanic Themed Hotel at the former headquarters of the White Star Line -  is a spa like no other. The spa is open to hotel guests as well and day guests looking to escape the hustle and bustle. Private treatment rooms, sauna, a bar and a totally incredible 40 sq ft hydrotherapy pool.

Some of our other favourite spas are at Titanic Hotel, where a Mother-To-Be Rituals package is available from £99, The Suites Hotel Knowsley and DoubleTree by Hilton.

Everyone’s favourite – just drinks

Cocktails in milk bottles, champagne or just an apple juice, you can’t go wrong with just a few drinks. There’s plenty of places to do so, from hidden spots to hotel top spots.

Need help? We have narrowed down some of our favourites in our 'Best places for a Cocktail' blog.

Happy Mother's Day!
