Liverpool 2018 Family Fun

If there’s one thing Liverpool does well, it’s helping people make memories. In the past, we’ve been the home of Giants, of giant spiders, of big free festivals. But that was the past and this is now.

If you’re looking to take a break with the whole family this year, you’ve picked the perfect time. The city is brimming with excitement as we celebrate 10 years since our European Capital of Culture crown and the next 10 years are going to be even more special. Where else is the transport multicoloured, the food out of this world and the best things to see and do, pretty much free?

Let’s show you our 18 reasons why family fun starts in Liverpool. Ready, set, GO!

1) You can hop on board the most dazzling ferry in the world

But make sure you sing ‘Ferry ‘cross the Mersey’ or it doesn’t count.

2. Or hop on one of our amazing tour buses

Visit Beatles haunts on the Magical Mystery Tour, witness the history, drama, talents and scouse humour of our city with City Sights, or get spooky with a Shiverpool Bus Tour: mixing an (un)healthy dose of history, lashings of laughter and an intoxicating elixir of the strange and unexplained.

 3. We know how to look after mini football fans

Whether a blue or a red (or neither), the whole family can walk in the footsteps of the Liverpool and Everton players at Anfield and Goodison stadium tours, or follow the history of football at The Museum of Liverpool.

This year, Liverpool's sporting reputation will soar to brand new heights - and the whole family can be a part of it. To celebrate the popular culture of football and Liverpool's 10th anniversary since we were crowned European Capital of Culture, there's a month-long season of events and exhibitions that will begin with the kick of the World Cup itself on June 14th. Expect stories of real people, places and times that shaped the modern game we know and love today, all across the world (with special input from our two football giants, Liverpool FC & Everton FC of course). 4. Because Saturday’s are movie days at FACT Liverpool

And there’s a weekly ‘Big Scream Club’ which, as its exclusively for parents and babies under one, noise is welcome!

We are thrilled to announce that the fourth confirmed venue for Maggie's Culture Crawl Liverpool 2017 is ... FACT (Foundation for Art and Creative Technology)! FACT is a Liverpool-based cinema, art gallery and the UK's leading organisation for the support and exhibition of film, art and new media. It is the place where people, art and technology meet. As a centre for Research & Innovation, FACT works with partners across the creative industries, health, higher education and arts sectors to develop multi-disciplinary projects exploring the relationship between technology and culture. 5. If it wasn’t already, music is about to become the kids FAVOURITE THING

We’ve got a whole museum dedicated to British Music, interactive experiences at The Beatles Story and random pianos dotted around Liverpool ONE that you’ve just got to play a tune on. Failing that, there's an absolutely HUGE piano festival on its way, which will celebrate the humble keys with world-renowned musicians, so many different genres and performances, exhibitions and school programmes for the whole family. If you thought the piano was all about Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata, think again.

Which leads us on to…

6. We’ve got FREE FESTIVALS!

From River Festivals, Pirates on the Docks, celebrations of African culture and Chinese New Year, we have tonnes that don’t have age limits. Their first festival? Sorted.

7. The food is anything but dull.

Kids can eat their dinner out of A TREASURE CHEST at Smuggler’s Cove on the Albert Dock, make their own pizza (complete with hat) at Olive and indulge in pancake parties at the Interesting Eating Company. Oh, and sweets at Bold Street Sweets for afters.

8. Getting here really isn’t a problem

We’ve got Liverpool John Lennon Airport, Manchester Airport a short taxi ride, Lime Street Train Station and fab motorway links if you’ve decided to bring the car.

9. …and you can get everywhere on foot while you’re here

So don’t worry about the pram or those little legs - and you’ll really get the most out of exploring all the sights that way. But if you really don't want to walk, we’ve got our very own underground metro system to get you around the city once you’re here.

10. You can get the kids birthday and Christmas presents sorted

You’ve got stores like Disney, LEGO,Claire’s and The Entertainer in Liverpool ONE plus shops like Forbidden Planet on Bold Street if they love Sci-Fi. There’s probably a few things you’ll like along the way as well.

11. The kids can enjoy their own afternoon tea while you enjoy THIS VIEW.

Of course, you can have an afternoon tea too to make it a real 10/10.

12. Finding big green spaces and fresh air is simple

Did you know Liverpool has more parks than Paris? Stroll around Sefton Park, crab at Crosby Lake or head to Claremont Farm to pick your own fruit and veg. For a taste of magic, there’s nothing better than following the mermaid trail in New Brighton either.

13. And getting a glimpse of wildlife is pretty easy

Explore Knowsley Safari Park, Formby’s Red Squirrel Nature Reserve, Farmer Teds or Acorn Farm - and Chester Zoo isn’t far away either. Holding weird and wonderful creatures at the World Museum Aquarium also has to be on the to-do list.

14. You’ll get a good night's sleep while you’re here

Whether it’s the real hotel experience you’re looking for, or you’re more inclined to do your own thing at a serviced apartment, Liverpool understands the important part of a trip is the Zzz’s.

15. Forget boring history lessons, any history the kids will learn here will capture their imaginations

We’ve got Mummies hiding out at our World Museum, epic ties to the Titanic...plus the Museum of Liverpool has a hands-on fantasy world for children below the age of 6. Did we mention you can climb aboard Britain’s oldest operational steam tug here too and see the ancient discoveries of China's First Emperor & his Terracotta Warriors from February?

16. There’s always something going on at one of our theatres

From Christmas Pantos at Liverpool Empire at Christmas time, to world-renowned shows at Everyman & Playhouse theatres. Not forgetting some of the world’s best artists that play at our waterfront venue, Echo Arena, or the films you can see at Liverpool Philharmonic.

17. And because we’re the most filmed city in the UK outside of London…

...your whole family can embark upon your own scene straight out of Harry Potter or Fantastic Beasts (to name just two blockbusters filmed here), with our itinerary

18. We’ve been voted the kindest city in the UK

You won’t come to our city and feel like strangers, our people will make sure of that.

  1. Sir Easily
What is that main image representing? Family events, really? You've actually sent this out live to the world wide web! Seriously, have a good think about changing it as I know my perception of it was that it represented a bunch of surly, unaesthetic, homogenous heads, backs of heads, and somewhat nondescript, uneventful imagery. Come on marketeers, get your acts together. Liverpool, amazing, multicultural, family oriented, happy and joyous, the world in one city... Say no more. Delete after reading and making the necessary change please. Ta xXx
