The Best Places for Afternoon Tea in Liverpool

Today, we thank the seventh Duchess of Bedford, Anna Russel for the delightful tradition that is Afternoon Tea. During the Victorian times, the evening meal was served fashionable late in the Duchess’ home, thus at around 8pm. At around 4pm, the Duchess would become hungry and requested that a tray of tea, bread and butter and cake to be brought into her room in the late afternoon. This became a habit, and the Duchess began inviting friends to join her.

This pause for afternoon tea, became a fashionable social event and still is today. Birthdays, engagements, valentine’s day celebrations, spa breaks often centre around afternoon tea – now often served with bubbles such as Prosecco or Champagne.

We’ve decided to discover some of Liverpool’s best places for Afternoon Tea. From the traditional, to the jaw dropping to even Beatles themed. We’ve found it.

1. Oh Me Oh My

Oh Me Oh My is what could be described as a ‘grand tea house’ located in a former bank building opposite the famous Mersey skyline landmark, The Royal Liver Building.

High tea diners can choose their desired tea blend from a box. The loose leaf tea then comes served in a clear pot. However, you can opt for a bubblier type of accompaniment to your mini crème brulee and sandwiches. Oh Me Oh My offers both Prosecco and Champagne Afternoon Tea.

Cake heaven 😍🥂🎂🍰💞 #afternoontea #ohmeohmy

Booked here for afternoon tea for my mums birthday. There were only 4 of us so not a big party but they made such a fuss of my mum, put a sign on our table saying happy birthday. Brought our prosecco over straight away, the sandwiches and cakes were to die for! Absolutely yummy!

2. Jam

26 different types of loose tea and 8 different Afternoon Tea options to choose from. The city centre restaurant and cocktail bar even offers Afternoon Tea for one, if perhaps you are dining alone, or your companion isn’t too fussed on the idea, genius!

Expect sandwich rolls, sweet treats, homemade scones, jam (of course) and clotted cream. Jam also offers vegetarian afternoon tea and once again, the choice of Afternoon Tea and Prosecco.

If perhaps you can’t manage the full afternoon tea spread, Jam offer Cream Tea comprising of two scones with jam and clotted cream and a pot of tea.

The lift up there is also nothing to worry about you can hardly feel it move and is over in no time (for those who aren't sure about lifts and heights as my mum was)”

The staff were just excellent. We were really impressed by the setting and service here.
