How about we help boost that Christmas cheer? Here’s some inspiration in the form of our 2-day Family Fun Christmas Itinerary in Liverpool.

It’s that time for fun, family and making fantastic memories, but also that time to kick-back, relax, and indulge in a winter break that’s jam-packed with magical experiences that you can share with each other for years to come. From Winter Wonderlands to storytime with Santa; this Christmas, Liverpool is about to take you on a family city break that you’ll never forget.

STAY 🛏️

If you want to have the full getaway Hotel treatment, we’d suggest Holiday Inn at the Albert Dock  - ideal for trips to Echo Arena and Albert Dock, looking all sparkly this time of year. If you’re after a more ‘home-from-home’ stay, try BridgeStreet Serviced Apartments at the heart of our Liverpool ONE retail haven; where apartments are complete with fully functional kitchens, onsite parking and plenty of space for the whole family. At Bridgestreet, you can even gaze out the window onto the incredible Liverpool ONE Christmas tree. Kids will love it!

Like a little rave!

DAY 1
Breakfast at Bill's

Every good day starts with a hearty brekkie. Set yourself up for a full-day of festivities at Bills. Buttermilk pancakes, smashed avocado and eggs, sourdough toast, halloumi, streaky bacon… you get the idea. When you’re all finished up and bellies are full, it’s time to get your skates on and shop all things festive.

Omg. 🤤🤤🤤

Shop 'til you Drop
Liverpool ONE

Surrounded by the sounds of festive choirs, twinkly lights and a giant light-up Christmas tree it’s impossible not to feel Christmassy by now. It’s time to explore over 160 stores and get some prezzies ticked off that list.

Kids will LOVE a trip to the LEGO store where they can build to their hearts’ content while you secretly shop for gifts. There’s the Disney Store just next door and Build A Bear too! For the adults Debenhams and John Lewis are both just around the corner.

Don’t forget to pay a visit to their incredible Christmas tree, emblazoned with 280 mesmerising heart lights.

Christmas Markets

After a day shopping in the nation’s favourites, it’s time to head to somewhere a little more boutique. Outside one of Liverpool’s most awe-inspiring buildings, St George’s Hall is where you’ll find a collection of wooden chalets, occupied by artisan food outlets and traders. Walk along the cobbled paths and admire the twinkling lights strung from roof to roof.

If you’re feeling peckish, now’s the time to stop off for a German frankfurter, pick n pix, Nutella crepe, or even a crispy pie.

Explore the World Museum

It’s time to escape the cold air and head inside to the World Museum, just a little walk across from St George’s Hall. At the World Museum there’s five floors to explore. Delve deep into the Planetarium, Aquarium and Bug House. Learn about world cultures, ancient Egypt and see some real-life Mummies. Blast off to floor five for all things space and time.

The world museum is free to enter and throughout November and December free ‘Wonderful world’ workshops will take place.

It's Panto Time - Ohh yes it is!

After a day of festive fun and learning, it’s time for the finale. Tonight it’s time for a traditional Panto - what’s christmas without one?

There’s a few to choose from. Head to Liverpool Empire for Jack and The Beanstalk, Echo Arena for Peter Pan, Unity Theatre for Beauty and the Beast but if you fancy something a bit more rock n roll, head to the Everyman and Playhouse for the Rock n Roll Panto, The Snow Queen.

DAY 2
Storytime with Santa at Liverpool Town Hall

Today we’re starting with the most magical activity of all - story time with the *real* Santa. For kids below the age of 12, it’s the most magical way to meet the guy himself, say hello to his elf helpers, give him their Christmas wishes and be taken on their own special Christmas journey - for adults, you get to see the beautiful Liverpool Town Hall that’s enjoyed visits from international Royalty and a famous homecoming for the Beatles on its front balcony. With a special Santa gift for the kids to take home and cherish, we think it’ll make the perfect start to your magical break.

A Lap Around the Rink at the Christmas Ice Festival
Pier Head

It’s time to get those mittens out again because we’re off to a winter wonderland. Step out the Town Hall building and head right towards those Liver Birds. It’s time to slip, slide and glide at the Ice Festival. Whether you’re a triple salco expert, or have never taken to ice before, the huge covered rink has skate aids so those who feel less steady on their feet can enjoy a lap or two, too.

Those who like a bit of adrenalin can head to the top of the 6 metre high, three-lane, 30-metre ice-run.

There’ll be plenty of funfair rides for the kids (and big kids too), pop-up food stalls serving apres specialities including Bratwurst, hot roast rolls, crepes, mulled wine and hot choc.

🎅🏻 Santa Secret 🎅🏻

If you’ve got some time while on our waterfront, head to the Museum of Liverpool - from the 16th November you’ll find a giant Santa at over 5 metres tall with a boot size of 45. You’ll be be able to see (and take a selfie) with the Santa that brought joy to around 10,000 visitors a week when it stood at Liverpool Blackler’s department store’s Winter Wonderland Grotto 1957 - 1988. But shh, it’s a secret!

Grab a Pastry at Rough Hand Made
Royal Albert Dock

Walk across to the Royal Albert Dock, that looks especially pretty when its festoon lighting is twinkling. Pop into Rough Hand Made, a local family-run bakery that sells delicious pastry treats. Choose from delicious delectables from a traditional or dark chocolate croissant, freshly made breads or even a pizza pastry.

Liverpool Cathedral

Liverpool’s grand cathedral is a special place to visit all year round. At Christmas time though Liverpool’s Cathedral feels extra magical. Warm up inside and star in wonder at the awe-inspiring stained glass windows that adorn the building. Light a candle and

The Snowman, the Bear and The Piano with Live Orchestra at Liverpool Cathedral

Something special is happening at the Cathedral on 29th December. Experience 'The Snowman' with a live orchestra and an animation of the Bear and the Piano by David Litchfield.

Dine on the dock

Head back to see the Royral Albert Dock in all its twinkly, festive wonder. It’s time fare una spaghettata… (to eat spaghetti) at Gusto. Kids will love it, as they can even make their own pizza!
