Liverpool Christmas Market lit up outside St George's Hall

Treat yourself in Liverpool this Christmas.

Because this Christmas, you deserve a city break - and Liverpool has your name written all over it. Take a look at our 2-day itinerary ideas below to have the most indulgent festive stay at one of the world’s most beautiful cities but be warned - you might never want to leave.

Book yourself into one of the largest and most luxurious hotels in Liverpool. The Titanic Hotel at Stanley Dock is a magnificent converted warehouse boasting rooms almost 3 times the size of your standard double room. With plush beige bed sheets, toasty carpets, exposed vaulted brick ceilings and original pillars throughout the building, the titanic is a hotel bursting with character.

There's even a spa, Maya Blue Wellness complete with hydrotherapy pool, sauna and steam room and relaxation lounge.

From finding that perfect gift, to treats 'to me, from me.'

Christmas is all about indulging. So, it’s only fair that the first stop on your Christmas break is to dabble in the some of the best city centre shopping hubs Liverpool is lucky enough to have.

In Liverpool ONE, you’ll be spoilt for choice. Find everything here from luxury brands like Swarovski, Goldsmiths and the epicentre of great brands in John Lewis. We highly suggest heading to Peter’s Lane too, where designer brands like the White Company, Radley & Hotel Chocolat. The only Harvey Nichols’ Beauty Bazaar is handily located just a few steps from here too, which means you can grab a champagne or cocktail as you peruse the beauty buys on offer, or over a manicure or massage.

If you’re embarking upon a sophisticated city break with the other half, there’s plenty to keep you both interested, with Reiss, Hugo Boss (both at Liverpool ONE) and Gieves & Hawkes (found in the Met Quarter) on hand to keep any guys looking tip top this Christmas.

If there’s anything we love better than shopping, it’s gin! So much so that we’ve created our very own. Pop into the Lunya deli or Nautilica at Albert Dock, and take home a bottle of our famous Liverpool Gin. Serve with juniper berries and a slice of orange in a matching Liverpool Gin balloon glass. Fallen in love yet?

Enjoy a Christmas tipple

Cheers… it’s Christmas! What’s the festive season without a tipple or two? We have you covered. For those who enjoy the hops, the ale tasting course at The Club House is something really special and will make a great outing (or early Christmas present for whoever is lucky enough to accompany you). The Club House is likely to take your breath away with its Hampton-esque white Christmassy splendour. Prefer wine tasting? Head to Veeno on Castle Street, who specialise in Sicilian wines and authentic Italian spuntini for a perfect luxury lunch.

Get your culture fix

Number attraction to see on your Christmas break should be Liverpool Cathedral, Britain's biggest Cathedral and the 5th largest in Europe.

You might be lucky enough to see the choir in action on your visit and if the weather is dry, we definitely recommend a trip up the top of the tower to see unrivalled panoramic views of the city from 500ft above sea level.

For music lovers, you won't have to search for to feel the Mersey Beat. Visit the Cunard Building for The British Music Experience and see iconic music memorabilia from Freddie to Bowie. Beatles fans shouldn’t miss a visit to The Beatles Story or the Cavern Club on Mathew Street, where the famous four started their journey to world stardom. And if you want to experience more, you can take a ride on the Magical Mystery Tour, which takes you to key Beatles landmarks such as Strawberry Fields and Penny Lane.

Be mesmerised by our lights

Our Christmas lights are nothing short of impressive, and from the moment you step off the train at Lime Street, right down to the world famous Albert Dock, you’ll be illuminated the entire way.

At Liverpool ONE, you'll see what’s believed to be the UK’s tallest Christmas tree from 16th November. Towering at 30ft, and with 280 colour-changing hearts, you’ve never seen anything like it. There’s even an alpine bar underneath the tree, complete with traditional themed huttes. Make it a Christmas to remember and have a go at their carol-oke over some mulled wine!

Embark on a culinary adventure

Where else could you eat around the world in one city, than in Liverpool? Our culinary offering is second to none and whatever your palate, you’ll find a restaurant to suit your tastes.

Take the Sunday Times’ word for it and take a walk to The Art School, which made the Sunday Times Top 100 Restaurants list of 2017 for its exceptionable quality of fine dining. Not to mention it features in the Michelin Guide 2018, citing its offering as “a bewildering array of colourful modern dishes”. Head chef, Paul Askew, is Joint Chair of the Northern Branch of the Royal Academy of Culinary Arts and leads the way for top quality dining in the North West. If you’re here for a couple’s weekend away then it’s a must.

Or why not try 60 Hope Street. Where the doorway is often adorned with stunning archways made of flowers. (Don’t forget to take a photo!) Not to mention it’s located in the beautiful Georgian Quarter, just a short walk from the city centre.

Ps. The Hope Street area looks gorgeous at Christmas time - you lucky things!

Catch a show and let us entertain you!

With no fewer than six theatres, we do love to put on a show at Christmas time. Catch Jack & the Beanstalk at the Liverpool Empire, or for a thoroughly Liverpudlian take on a classic fairytale check out The Scouse Cinderella at Liverpool’s Royal Court, which will have you laughing until Christmas.

A night at spectacular art-deco Philharmonic Hall is unforgettable and we can’t wait to get into the festive spirit with Love Actually in Concert as Richard Curtis’s much-loved Christmas film will play alongside The Novello Orchestra, performing the emotional score live. Be sure to see the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra - headed up by chief conductor Vasily Petrenko - while you're here.

Become an art connoisseur

We have an eye for special things here in Liverpool, and with the most museums and galleries outside of London, it'd be rude not to enjoy it all.

Why not soak up world-class art at the Walker Art Gallery and Tate Liverpool.

Contemporary photography gallery in the architecturally-modern Mann Island, Open Eye Gallery, is also worth a trip. Their exhibitions are always fascinating and the building with which its held is stunning.

🎀 Secret Gift Idea 🎀

No trip to Liverpool is the same without a ferry cross the Mersey. While it may a little bit blustery mid November and December. You can always come back when the sun's a little hotter for another trip to admire one of the best views of the iconic Liverpool skyline. You'll be glad to know that vouchers are available from the Mersey Ferries website!

Thank us later!

Enjoy the magic of the markets

We’ve mentioned our huge range when it comes to shops but our once-a-year Christmas markets are ready and waiting to welcome you too, with Baileys hot chocolates, freshly made crepes and beautifully crafted handmade gifts. Set against the spectacular grandeur of one of the finest examples of neo-classical architecture in the world, St George's Hall, you can't get better.

If you're after more market treats, the stunning Royal Albert Dock will be adorned with over independent arts and crafts stalls, decked out with everything from tasty treats and unique festive party wear to photography, homewares and handcrafted beauty products. If you were looking for the real Christmas experience, THIS is where you’ll find it.

The sound of Christmas

It just isn’t Christmas without a Christmas Carol experience. Head to the breathtaking Concert Room in the neo-classical St George’s Hall on 12th December as opera singer Danielle Thomas, Liverpool Harmonic Gospel Choir and Allerton Brass Brand infiltrate your ears with the merry sound of Christmas’s much-loved tunes and traditional carols for a truly magical experience.

The Grand Finale

All that caroling, you’re due a nice drink in beautiful surroundings. And as it is the festive season, it’s a given that we’ll be clinking those Prosecco glasses. Gino D’Acampo’s Italian restaurant on Castle Street offers an entire Prosecco Bar for you to enjoy, with forty types of Prosecco and sparkling wines. If you’re not sure which to choose, the friendly bartenders are happy to offer their suggestions.

If you’ve never had your cocktails bubbling, smoking or changing colour before your very eyes, you need to add The Alchemist to your must-do list. As one of our newest additions to the city, the bar provides a theatrical drinking experience like no other. We guarantee you'll be able to find the best cocktail you’ve ever had.

For those who just want a good cuppa, everyone around here loves Leaf, on Bold Street, for their huge selection of loose leaf teas. Their mantra is “Where there is tea, there is hope” and we couldn’t agree more. Coffee lovers don’t need to go far either, with a good handful of coffee shops (independents and well-known) spattered around town.

Now it's up to you!

Everyones Christmas is different, unique and special in its own way. We all have our own 'magical moments' over the festive period. We hope that this has inspired you to Visit Liverpool this Christmas. Share your time here on social using #MyLiverpoolChristmas and we can share our favourites.
