Christmas has finally arrived in Liverpool and we’re not one to shy away from the festivities. It’s time to grab your coat and mittens and celebrate the festive season!

There is so much to do in Liverpool this Christmas season; from classic pantos, festive markets, huge gigs and special ice festivals, we’re spoilt for choice with what to do. So, to make the decisions easier, we have put together 25 top attractions and events to give you some inspiration for this years festive celebrations!

This year’s Winter Arts Market returns on Saturday 1st December, transforming Liverpool’s Anglican Cathedral into a bustling market once again. With over 200 local independent artists, designers and makers offering their handmade creations, there will be something for everyone - especially if you’re stuck on what to buy for the fussy friend in your life. It’s a great way to spend the first weekend in December to get you in the mood for Christmas!

Blac Rabbit broke the internet this year when a video of them performing Beatles songs on the New York City subways went viral and this December, they’re coming to Liverpool! Performing a special intimate gig at The Beatles Story on the Royal Albert Dock, Blac Rabbit will take to the replica Cavern Club stage for a night of classic Beatles hits. With vocals so good you would think you were in the presence of Lennon and McCartney themselves this is not a gig to miss this festive season!

The Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival is back this year, as the iconic Pier Head is transformed into a winter wonderland fit for the whole family. For the thrill seekers, grab some skates for a bit of ice skating, whizz down the giant ice slide or brave the Ice Jet ride.

If the ice isn't your thing, have a go on the fun fair or explore the food stalls with some festive mulled wine or a hot chocolate. Open from 10th November till 6th January, there is plenty of time to embrace the Christmas spirit. Make sure you wrap up warm!

Roll up, roll up! The big top is in town! The adult only circus, Spectaculum, is brought to you by the mysterious Albus Wolfgang and will make for a great night out with your friends this festive season. Enjoy classic carnival games such as Hook-A-Duck, Ring Toss, Tin Can Alley and a Coconut Shy, whilst sipping on some sumptuous cocktails and sampling the delicious hot treats. We’ll see you there!

There is plenty going on at the Baltic Market over the festive season that you definitely do not want to miss out on.

Do you love dogs? Of course you do! Take your pooch down to the market on December 9th to meet Santa Paws himself and pick up some festive canine treats. To top it off, there’s also a doggy fancy dress competition, so have your pup don their best festive outfit to be in with the chance of winning. All funds raised will go towards the Merseyside Dogs home.

If Santa Paws isn't your thing, head down to one of their festive film nights throughout December and enjoy a Christmas classic with a glass of mulled wine. They’re showing Home Alone, Elf and Love Actually so there is something for everyone. Tickets are free but donations are highly encouraged as all the money raised will be going to three local charities, grab yours quick!

Following their slots on the main stage at this years Reading and Leeds Festivals, The Courteeners are bringing their own headline gig to the Echo Arena this winter. This year also saw the band celebrate the 10th anniversary of their debut album ‘St. Jude’ so there is no doubt this gig will turn into a massive party. With support from Gerry Cinnamon and Liverpool’s own Zuzu, treat yourself or a loved one with some tickets because it is definitely not a gig to miss this festive season.

The Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto is back at the Everyman Theatre this year with a frosty performance from The Snow Queen. Unlike any other panto in the city, the cast sing, dance, entertain and play live music on the stage to get even the most humbug of guests up on their feet dancing. This is a show for all the family to enjoy this Christmas, running from Saturday 24th November to Saturday 19th January make sure you get your tickets fast because it always proves popular!

The Liverpool Print fair is back for the second time this year on Saturday 24th November, showcasing affordable handmade art from a variety of talented printmakers, designers and illustrators from around the UK. Held at Constellations in the Baltic Triangle, it’s the perfect setting to explore work from a diverse mix of artists with something to suit everyone’s budget. From prints, to greetings cards and gifts, you might even be able to do some Christmas shopping whilst you’re there.

Fancy a laugh this festive season? Head on down to the Auditorium at the Echo Arena for three nights of award winning comedy from the Hot Water Comedy Club. With a lineup made up of Hot Water regulars including Paul Smith, Adam Rowe and Freddy Quinne; Friday night sees special guest Paul Sinha, one of the chasers on ITV’s The Chase, take to the stage to show off his set. We promise the jokes will be better than the one you find in your cracker on Christmas day!

If you are into art and science, FACT Liverpool’s new winter exhibition, Broken Symmetries, is for you.  Having spent the last three years working with CERN, they have brought together commissions by ten international artists who are exploring the shifting realities of modern science and the physical world.

Even if science isn't your thing, FACT’s exhibitions are always fascinating and will make a great break from all the Christmas shopping. Free to attend and open from 22 November 2018 to 3 March 2019, there are plenty of reasons to pop on down.

Liverpool loves a good Christmas shopping experience and we are very excited that the Christmas markets at St George’s Plateau are back this year to get us in the festive spirit. With over 40 stalls from across four continents selling mouth-watering food and unique arts and crafts, enjoy the atmosphere with some freshly roasted chestnuts and a hot chocolate. To top it off, the Yorkshire Pudding Christmas Dinner Wraps are back too!

Be sure to stop off at the Windmill Bar on your trip too and warm up with a mulled wine or sip on a traditional German beer. Open from 17 November until 22 December, we’ve got our coats on ready!

Do you remember the giant Father Christmas from Blackler’s department store? Well after undergoing a massive transformation, an updated body and a new suit, he’s back this year and standing proud at the Museum of Liverpool. Standing at over 5 meters tall and with a size 45 boot, it is the perfect opportunity to relive the old days of visiting Santa or to take the kids along for them to experience it too. Don’t forget your phone for the ultimate Father Christmas selfie!

If you are a fan of horses and looking for something to do between Christmas and New Year, the Liverpool International Horse Show is returning to the Echo Arena once again. Setting the bar for equestrian events; some of the world’s finest riders, including Olympians and Global stars will compete for the ultimate prizes. Taking place on Friday 28th of December to Monday 31st of December, it is the perfect way to bring in the new year.

We love a good family trip to the panto in Liverpool this time of year, but the Royal Court like to do things a bit differently with their adult only panto. After their smash hit success last year with The Scouse Nativity, this year they have brought out The Scouse Cinderella! Taking the traditional tale and adding bucket loads of scouse humour, join poor old Cinders as she goes on a journey she won’t forget. The Scouse Cinderella will run from Friday 23rd of November to Saturday 19th January.

The world’s first and oldest Santa’s Grotto returns to Liverpool for its 139th year in the city. Formerly at Lewis’ Department store, it can now be found in its new home in St John’s Market.

Have a family photo taken with Santa himself, explore the gift shop and then head on into the workshop where the kids can take part in arts and crafts activities. It is a fun filled day out for the whole family and an excellent Christmas tradition too.

If you’re after something musical this winter, head down to Liverpool’s Empire Theatre to experience Calendar Girls. Coming straight from London’s West End with rave reviews, the production is based on the real life story of a group of ordinary ladies who achieved something extraordinary.

Featuring an all star cast including Fern Britton, Denise Welch and Anne-Jane Casey and here for a week only it is definitely something you do not want to miss whilst it is in Liverpool this Christmas.

Sometimes a walk around the city is a great way to spend an afternoon during the holidays and this year there is all the more reason to grab your coat and a wooly hat.

Follow The Stars across the city centre as giant light installations light up Bold Street, Church Street, Lord Street, Castle Street and Williamson Square for you to follow their path.

Alongside the trail, a video installation will transform Castle Street into another world, whilst the real 50 ft Christmas tree that sits atop of Church Street has been brought back by popular demand.

There are plenty of lights scattered about so make sure you go out and explore!

Dinosaurs are Christmassy, right?

Celebrate one of the biggest movie franchises of all time this Christmas with the 25th Anniversary of Jurassic Park at the Liverpool Philharmonic. The groundbreaking cinematic experience has been made even better with a full symphony orchestra performing John Williams’ magnificent score, live, alongside the film. With shows on Saturday 29th and Sunday 30th of December, it would even make a great surprise gift for your loved one this Christmas.

Who doesn't love a good movie night at Christmas? Well, now imagine watching one of your favourite festive films in a setting as amazing as St George’s Hall!

With a big screen showing all the Christmas classics including; The Muppets Christmas Carol, Home Alone, Miracle on 34th Street, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Elf, Die Hard, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Holiday, Love Actually and The Greatest Showman, there is something for everyone at this ultimate Christmas cinema experience. With shows running from the 19th to the 23rd of December it is a great way to start the festivities.

To add that extra festive touch, there’s mulled wine, mince pies and hot chocolate on offer as well as a full bar!

Fe-fi-fo-fum, a giant panto this way comes!

Follow Jack on his journey up the beanstalk after he sells his trusty cow for some magical beans.
