There are so many things to see and do for kids of all ages to kick start the festive celebrations. From ice festivals to Christmas markets, classic pantos and loads of places to eat and drink, your family trip to Liverpool this Christmas won’t be one you’ll forget in a hurry. 

To make your trip as easy as possible, we have put together a two day itinerary covering everything from where to stay, eat and drink and all the festive activities you can head to.

Start your trip with a family breakfast

Start your Christmas trip off with breakfast in the heart of Liverpool ONE at Bill’s. There is everything from a full English breakfast to garden plates, toast and porridge and there’s even a children's breakfast menu too! Everyone will be able to set themselves up for day one of exploring Christmas in Liverpool. 


Do a bit of Christmas Shopping

This might not sound like the best way to entertain the kids but trust us, shopping in Liverpool at Christmas is fun for the whole family. Head to Liverpool ONE to explore over 160 shops including a pop up Barbie store here until 22nd November, the LEGO store, The Disney Store, Build a Bear and loads of other high street favourites and department stores. You’ll definitely be able to pick a few christmas presents up here.

Liverpool ONE will also the first stop on a magical Polar Adventure train ride. Departing from Chavasse Park and heading for the snowy North Pole the Christmas Express will trasnport you to a special pop-up polar party with music, glittering decorations and loads of activities! 

To really get into the Christmas shopping spirit take a walk around the Christmas Market at St George’s Plateau. There will be stalls selling all sorts of Christms gifts, sweet treats and a bar serving up loads of warm drinks to keep those hands nice and toasty. 


Enjoy buttermilk fried chicken at the coop

Kids of all ages will love it in Yard & Coop, not only for their amazing menu dedicated to all things chicken but also because you can sit in a chicken coop whilst you have your lunch! The dedicated children’s menu makes for a great lunch time treat. 


Get cosy for story time with Santa

Santa is very busy this year turning up at loads of different locations around Liverpool to listen to the children's Christmas wish lists.

The kids will love spending the afternoon having Story Time with Santa at Liverpool Town Hall. Father Christmas and his helper Buddy the Elf will share their magical stories and sing a song in front of the cosy log fire as the kids get to share their Christmas wishes with Santa and they’ll even leave with a special gift.

You can also head to the World's Oldest Grotto in St John's Market to explore the winter wonderland that has been around for over 130 years and meet Father Christmas himself. 

Visit Santa’s Grotto at Imagine That! in Otterspool too where there will be different festive workshops, a magical grotto, a winter garden, and the chance to meet Santa himself!  


Dine in a Smuggler’s Cove

For an evening meal the whole family will enjoy head to Smugglers Cove on the Royal Albert Dock for a pirate themed dinner with stunning views of the famous dock. The dedicated kids menu has everything from pizza you can make yourself to spaghetti, burgers and fish & chips meaning even the fussiest of eaters will be satisfied. 


Go on an adventure with Buddy the Elf

After dinner head over the road to the M&S Bank Arena for Elf: A Christmas Spectacular. Everyone’s favourite Christmas film, Elf, has been turned into a spectacular stage show with incredible special effects, songs and epic sets that the whole family - humbug adults included - will enjoy! 



Indulge in some pancakes at Moose

For epic stacks of American pancakes, Mighty Moose potato hash, all day breakfasts and Moose eggs benedict, head to Moose on Dale Street or Hope Street; the food is that good we have two in the city! There is also a dedicated children's menu so the kids can pick their favourite breakfast option too. 


Visit an iconic Santa Claus

Take a trip to the Museum of Liverpool to see the famous Blackler’s Santa standing proud at over 5 meters tall! The statue of Father Christmas once stood in the Blacker’s Department Store in Liverpool and has been lovingly restored so children today can enjoy it too. It makes for a great family photo of your trip to Liverpool!

Whilst you’re there take a look around the museum to learn all about the history and culture of Liverpool. There are plenty of hands on activities the kids can get involved in too. 


Share some slices at Rudy’s pizza

Everyone loves pizza, right? Head over to Castle Street to Rudy’s for a couple of slices of pizza while watching the world go by on one of Liverpool’s most popular streets. There will be something for everyone here.

Visit our own winter wonderland on the Pier Head

The Liverpool Christmas Ice Festival is back this year turning the Pier Head into a winter wonderland once again! Take the kids for a spin on the ice rink or have a go on the huge ice slide whilst having a wander round the stalls with a cup of hot chocolate. 

After the Ice Festival take a walk around the Christmas Market at St George’s Plateau for that ultimate festive activity. There will be stalls selling all sorts of Christms gifts, sweet treats and a bar serving up loads of warm drinks to keep those hands nice and toasty. 


Explore foods from around the world at Liverpool ONE

Head over to Liverpool ONE to explore all the different restaurants on offer for dinner with the whole family. There is everything from The Club House to Smoke & Dough, Turtle Bay, Bem Brasil and loads more as you take in the buzzing atmosphere of Liverpool ONE.

After dinner take a walk around the city to explore the Liverpool Light Spectacular! On Church Alley you will find a 50 metre tunnel of lights putting on an immersive light show every hour from half 4 until half 7 and at Williamson Square there will be a walk-through Christmas tree! The lights will make for some great family photos.  


Immerse yourself in panto season at the Liverpool Empire Theatre

End your trip with one of the most festive of Christmas activities, a traditional panto! The whole family can settle down in one of our many theatres ready to shout ‘They’re behind you!’ and ‘Oh no you didn’t’ at the classic panto characters. The Liverpool Empire are bringing the high flying adventure of Peter Pan to their stunning theatre this year for an epic Christmas night out.

Jump on the Merseyrail

Getting around a city with kids can be a bit stressful but the best thing about coming to Liverpool is that it’s such a walkable city and most attractions are a reasonable walking distance. However if you want to give your legs a bit of a rest you can jump on the Merseyrail Loop line that stops off at three different stations in the city centre and plenty more further afield.
