Put some sparkle into your trip to Liverpool this Christmas with 25 different things to see, do and explore!

From pantos, to festive markets, places to eat, drink and shop, light trails to explore and everything else in between, there is so much to do for the whole family this Christmas in Liverpool. 

So help with your Christmas planning we’ve put it all into this handy 25 Days of Christmas blog to make your trip to Liverpool magical!

Liverpool. Feels like Christmas. 

1. Visit Liverpool ONE's Alpine Village

Liverpool ONE have got a brand new Christmas tree this year so make sure you head over to visit their Alpine Village at Chavasse Park to see it. Grab a drink at Bar Hutte and take on some festive karaoke, take a selfie with the angel wings then hit the shops for all your Christmas shopping.

There are also lots of bars and restaurants with Christmas menus for you to enjoy after taking in all the festive spirit too!

2. The Christmas Markets are back!

Get festive at the Christmas Markets which are back at St George’s Plateau and William Brown Street, bringing all your favourite festive offerings against the stunning backdrop of St George’s Hall. Shop their range of unique Christmas gifts and pull up a chair in the windmill bar or Bavarian bar for a warm glass of mulled wine. 

Open every day until 24 December there’s lots of time to get into the festive spirit with the whole family.

3. Visit Liverpool Cathedral for their light show

Liverpool Cathedral are welcoming a brand new light show experience ‘The Light Before Christmas: The Angels Are Coming’ this Christmas. From 2 to 9 December visitors can explore the immersive sequence of dazzling light and sound inside the iconic building.

If you miss out on this experience, they will also be hosting a whole range of events from Christmas wreath making to breakfast with Santa and a special showing of The Snowman with a live orchestra! Find out more on their website here.

4. Join in with the Santa Dash

Liverpool Santa Dash is the biggest and longest Santa Run in the UK and in 2005 it achieved Guinness World Record Status for the Biggest Santa Gathering! The 5k run starts at Pier Head, passing through the Royal Albert Dock before finishing at Liverpool Town Hall. Taking place on 4 December, there is still time to sign up, grab your santa suit to take part!

5. Selfies with the Church Street Christmas tree

Head over to Church Street to see the real Christmas tree whilst you’re out doing your Christmas shopping. It makes for a great festive photo from your trip to Liverpool. 

6. See Aladdin at the M&S Bank Arena

Join Aladdin, his mother Widow Twanky and his brother Wishee Washee as they embark on a magical adventure to try and defeat the evil Abanazar at the M&S Bank Arena this Christmas.

The magical pantomime features great songs, dazzling dance routines, stunning scenery and amazing special effects for an unforgettable experience for the whole family. Get your tickets here.

7. The Rock ‘n’ Roll panto Red Riding Hood

You can’t go wrong with a panto at Christmas and the Rock ‘n’ Roll Panto of Red Riding Hood at the Everyman theatre is not to be missed this year. With outlandish and sparkling costumes, plenty of plot twists and surprises and musical hits performed by the super talented actors and musicians, it’s the perfect night out for children and adults alike. 8. See a show at the Liverpool Philharmonic Hall

The Liverpool Philharmonic Hall has all sorts of festive events to enjoy this year. Watch the Christmas classic, Love Actually with a full live orchestra, catch a ‘Swingin’ Christmas’ for all your favourite Christmas classics, Singalong with Santa, Spirit of Christmas, Carols by Candlelight and lots more amazing events!

9. Enchanted at Knowsley Safari

Knowsley Safari has once again been transformed into a winter wonderland as Enchanted returns to illuminate the foot safari this Christmas. Take the kids on this spectacular night-time adventure on this enchanting animal trail and not forgetting toasted marshmallows to complete the festive fun.

10. The Scouse Jack & The Beanstalk at the Royal Court

The Royal Court Christmas show is back but this one is definitely not for the kids! With stupid jokes, live music and drinks at your table, they’ve got it all covered for their show of The Scouse Jack and the Beanstalk. 

Running until 21 January, this one always sells out so get your tickets quick. 

11. White Christmas at Liverpool Empire

Make it a magical Christmas this year with the brand-new spectacular production of Irving Berlin’s classical musical, White Christmas at the Liverpool Empire. Direct from the West End, join in on this tale of love and friendship featuring all the classic songs we love to hear and the most festive of all, ‘White Christmas’

Running from 6-32 December don’t miss out on tickets. 

12. Walk around the Royal Albert Dock

The Royal Albert Dock is stunning all year round but at Christmas it’s truly magical! Take a walk around the beautiful buildings on a festival light trail walk to see two brand new installations, one with a Beatles twist and one a nod to the jellyfish that call the Dock home. You can also enjoy a bite to eat in their many restaurants, grab a warm drink after exploring the lights or pop into Tate Liverpool to see The Turner Prize!

13. A Christmas Carol at Shakespeare North Playhouse

This Christmas, the Shakespeare North Playhouse in Prescot will welcome their take on A Christmas Carol to their boards. Recreated with a distinct Knowsley feel, the result will be a slightly bonkers, fast and furious retelling of the original text with a host of musical instruments and a sprinkling of pantomime fun.

14. The Lanterns At Chester Zoo

This winter, Chester Zoo are inviting you to explore The Lanterns for a magical festive experience. Delve into a Norwegian fairy-tale land to encounter a multi-coloured, castle towering high in the heart of the zoo, come face-to-face with life sized puppets and meet Father Christmas himself at this stunning experience for the whole family.

15. The Luna Winter Cinema at St George's Hall

The Luna Winter Cinema is returning to St George’s Hall for the first time since 2019 for a whole host of classic films on a giant screen. See the Great Hall transformed into a magical festive cinema showing everything from Elf, to Home ALone, It’s a Wonderful Life, The Muppet’s Christmas Carol and lots more.

16. Story Time With Santa

Join Father Christmas and his friend Buddy The Elf as they share magical stories and sing a song or two at Liverpool Town Hall this Christmas. The special experience will leave your little ones spellbound as each child gets a turn of sharing their Christmas wishes with Santa before receiving a special gift.

17. A Winters Trail at The Palm House

A magical winter wonderland is coming to Sefton Park’s Palm House this December as the iconic landmark plays host to ‘A Winter’s Trail’, an immersive walk-through experience based on ‘A Christmas Carol’. With plenty of food and drink on offer too, it will be a great experience for everyone to enjoy.

18. Meet The Mighty Red Mascot at Anfield

Don’t miss your chance to meet LFC’s official mascot and number one fan, Mighty Red this Christmas. This special tour of Anfield Stadium will include all the amazing tour experiences including the chance to visit the dressing rooms and press room, walk through the tunnel and take in the epic views from the Main Stand as well as festive fun and games with Mighty Red.

This special tour only takes place on 17 December so don’t miss out!

19. Elf A Christmas Spectacular

The popular Christmas movie, Elf has been transformed into a live arena spectacular this Christmas. With a huge stage set up, a travelling stage that travels the auditorium, an audience snowball fight, an indoor snowstorm and lots more magical activity.

Don’t miss out on the two shows on 3-4 December at M&S Bank Arena.

20. Christmas shopping at MerseyMade
