Families enjoying the Royal Albert Dock in the sunshine

About

With its history dating back to 1839, the Albert Dock has been on a rollercoaster ride; from dereliction to a complete regenerative transformation in 1988. Blending the old and the new, it now proudly holds the title of being one of the most visited tourist attractions in the whole of the UK, thanks to its extensive offer of restaurants, bars, hotels, museums and galleries.

Located on Liverpool’s incredible World Heritage Site waterfront, the Albert Dock structure features the largest collection of Grade I listed buildings in the whole country. With such an impressive accolade, you’d be right in thinking that the attractions housed here are going to be something worth talking about.

Beatles fan? Well, the award-winning The Beatles Story is the perfect start. The world's largest permanent exhibition purely devoted to their lives and times takes you on an immersive journey; from the start of the band to Beatlemania, the memorabilia and fascinating facts make this one of Albert Dock’s best-loved sights. Pair that with a trip on the Magical Mystery Tour and you’re onto a winner.

Art lovers will be in their element at Tate Liverpool; Albert Dock’s home of British and international modern & contemporary art and culture. Past collections have included Andy Warhol, Jackson Pollock and Picasso, what’s next? You’ll have to make a trip and find out!

Delve into Liverpool’s maritime heritage – and its connection to RMS Titanic - at the Merseyside Maritime Museum and discover the historical and contemporary aspects of slavery, and the part that Merseyside played in the slave trade at the International Slavery Museum.

With past events including British Style Collective, Folk festival on the Dock and the start of The Clipper Race, you can count on the Albert Dock to put on a bunch of spectacular events each year. To find out more, check our What’s On page.

And once you’ve seen it all, experience dozens of delicious dishes and pick-me-ups dotted around the Dock – from the pirate-themed The Smuggler’s Cove to the Italian delights of Gusto – and don’t forget nightlife entertainment like PANAM or Liverpool Comedy Central are always on hand once night draws in. No need to venture away once the fun is over, Albert Dock’s two hotels, Premier Inn and Holiday Inn Express, are on hand to make your experience as fuss-free as possible. What are you waiting for? Come and see the Dock!

For more information, you can speak to Albert Dock Visitor Centre, which you’ll find in Anchor Courtyard.

We spent a few pleasant hours wandering around Albert Dick area, small shops, cafes and bars. A nice leisure area in what previously was a busy dock. Read full review
