Liverpool City Region is well-connected to the UK motorway network. From the M6 take the M62, M58 or M56 direct to the destination.
To travel to Wirral Peninsula from the city centre, take the Mersey Tunnel and don’t forget the toll money! If you’re heading up to the coast, Southport is an enjoyable coastal drive away. The Silver Jubilee Bridge in Runcorn crosses the River Mersey and Manchester Ship Canal to provide convenient road access to Halton. Knowsley and St Helens are easily accessible too, both only a short drive from the city centre.

How to reduce impact on your journey

- Check timetables and leave more time for your journey
- Don't aim for the last bus or train home as services are likely to be very busy
- Stick to public transport wherever possible to reduce congestion on key routes in and out of the city centre, including Mersey Tunnels
By Air
- Liverpool John Lennon Airport connects Liverpool city centre with over 70 destinations across the UK, Europe and Africa. Nine carriers operate from the airport including Wizz Air, Blue Air, Flybe and Widerøe, and it is also a base for both Ryanair and easyJet.
- Getting from LJLA to the city is simple, and there are a variety of options. Take a taxi, hop on a direct bus or get the train from Liverpool South Parkway rail station which is connected to the airport via a frequent shuttle service. - Manchester Airport is just 45 minutes from Liverpool city centre and offers many direct long haul routes in to the North West. Carriers include British Airways, Emirates, Etihad and KLM.
