Liverpool theatre has a fantastically strong reputation, and Liverpool city region has plenty of top theatre performance spaces.

The legendary Everyman and Playhouse theatres are responsible for launching the career of several celebrated actors including Bill Nighy, Julie Walters and the late, great Pete Postlethwaite. They offer an eclectic programme of theatre and frequently stage world premieres by local and international writers.

The Empire is the largest theatre in Liverpool and stages the big musicals and spectacular shows, often straight from the West End.

The Royal Court offers a range of long-running plays and one-off nights from the likes of Joan Rivers, Russell Howard, Dylan Moran, and Ben Elton.

The intimate Unity Theatre, described as 'the most ambitious theatre in Liverpool' by The Guardian, is a hotbed of new and local talent and provides a valuable platform for small theatre companies.
