Due to the ongoing situation surrounding the Covid-19 (Coronavirus) outbreak RIBA North remains closed.
RIBA North is the Royal Institute of British Architects’ National Architecture Centre on Liverpool’s Waterfront. The centre was opened in June 2017 and was recently awarded the title of ‘Best Newcomer to the Visitor Economy’ at the Liverpool City Region Tourism Awards 2018. It is situated in extremely close proximity to the Open Eye Gallery and Museum of Liverpool, a stone’s throw from the Albert Dock.
RIBA North is a place for everyone to discover more about architecture and is an inspirational resource for both RIBA members and the public. Through exhibitions, events and walking tours the centre champions architects, architecture and good design.
At the heart of RIBA North is the City Gallery, a space for visitors to learn more about Liverpool's past, present and future, as well as the processes involved in urban development and the evolution of the built environment.
RIBA North's City Gallery includes the Digital City Model, an interactive 3D model that tells a variety of stories about Liverpool and the surrounding area. It is also an extraordinary professional tool, which can be used by developers, architects and planners to host public consultations, anticipate the impact of future development and encourage the best design approaches.
The centre is also home to an RIBA shop, selling all manner of different architectural inspired gifts for children and adults, a showcase of Northern designers and RIBA merchandise, and a fantastic selection of books along with architects tools of the trade.
We have step free access to the main entrance and step free access to the first floor via a lift located at the rear of the ground floor café. We also welcome guide dogs. If you have any questions about access, or if you have any special requirements, please contact us before your visit.
RIBA North is also home to a programme of architectural walking tours of Liverpool. The six tours cover five of Liverpool’s UNESCO World Heritage areas and during the Summer season run five days per week. These are bookable in advance through the RIBA North website. Tours last approximately two hours and whether you a city resident or visiting Liverpool from elsewhere, you will discover the history of Liverpool through its key buildings and public spaces. The award-winning RIBA volunteer guides will tell the story of Liverpool’s past, present and future.
