The Empire Theatre is considered the second largest theatre in the country and one of the widest in Europe, playing host to big-name touring productions, musicals and concerts.

Named as The Prince of Wales Theatre and Opera House, it was opened on Lime Street in October 1866. Since then, the theatre has been through many changes like in name, ownerships and architectural. The most recent was in 1998, when it increases the stage size and the auditorium was also modernised and increase to seat 2381 people.

Throughout the years the Empire has gone from strength to strength; showcasing the best in local, national and international talent.

The Liverpool Empire Theatre is located on Lime Street and is easily accessible by road. For SATNAV use L1 1JE.

Car-parking:

The theatre does not have its own parking facilities but Liverpool boasts many city centre car parks with reasonable rates and many are within 5 minutes walk of the theatre. The closest car parks are located at Mount Pleasant, Lord Nelson Street, Queen Square and at St John’s Shopping Centre on Lime Street. St. John’s Car Park offers discounted parking of £2.50 for patrons visiting local theatres after 6.00pm and leaving before midnight. Queen Square car park offers discounted parking of £2.00 for Liverpool Empire Theatre customers on production of a ticket stub. The rate would allow customers to park from 5.00pm to 9.00am the next day.

By Train:

The Liverpool Empire Theatre is next door to Lime Street Station. Local (Wirral Line) and National rail services stop at this station. Please use the Lord Nelson Street exit for the theatre.

By Bus:
