Nordic flags blow in the wind on Liverpool’s Swedish church, the Gustaf Adolfs Kyrka – a remaining link to our history with the old Baltic states. The Nordic sailors would have taken rest here as their imported timber was loaded into the warehouses that surround the church. You know the history, now meet the future. The city has recently become awash with the Scandinavian vibe – from Nordic-inspired pop-up dining clubs to Scandi-cool venues that put an IKEA catalogue to shame.
The small team at Malmo have based their menu around rye-laden open sandwiches (smørrebrød), breakfast platters, colourful salads, fresh bagels & sweet waffles. All ingredients are fresh and everything on the menu is made in house. There’s tonnes of vegetarian and vegan dishes to be noted on the menu!
Malmo aims to deliver a delicious Scandinavian inspired food & drink experience with a laid back and authentic café feel. It’s this mix of quality food and an intangible vibe that have made places like Copenhagen become European hot-spots.
Malmo Mat was founded by Jessie & Amy, two people who in 2017 founded their own breakfast and brunch cafe serving fresh, healthy and organic dishes to the people of Liverpool and beyond.
Their inspiration came from spending time in Northern Europe were they fell in love with the vibrant, healthy food and this fuelled the idea to replicate their experience through MALMO with a great selection of Scandi brunch dishes.
In spite of such a central location, Malmo still feels like a bit of a secret. This might be the fact it shares the building with a non-for-profit youth service - (MYA) but don’t let this put you off. It’s an energetic building on Hanover St dishing out super vibrant and healthy dishes unlike any of their neighbours.
