About

The UK's largest free celebration of African Music and culture will be back in 2018 for its 26th year! What began as a series of small time gigs across Liverpool city centre is now a fully flourishing festival held in one of Liverpool's most loved festival backdrops, Sefton Park where it moved to in 2002 due to the huge demand and rising number of revellers!

Over the years, the festival has hosted artists from across Africa to South America and The Caribbean with the introduction of Salsa, Soca and Reggae - which always proves popular with the festival goers!

The festival is more than just music though. It's a treat for all five sense. Smell and taste the culinary delights of Africa, get involved in arts and crafts, feel amazing in the fashion of Africa and beyond with over 40 stalls to explore.

Africa Oye is an event that looks to harness the wonderful spirit of multiculutralism and tolerance - of which came about to address and target the negative representations of Africa. Instead of images of war, disease, poverty and famine Africa Iyte repositions and addresses preconceptions by redressing the balance and highlight the massive range of cultures, foods, music and aritsts that help to make Africa one of the most vibrant continents in the world.

Africa Oye will be part of Liverpool's incredible event programme to celebrate 2018; 10 years since we were European Capital of Culture. Be part of it!

“This isn’t just the largest festival of African and Caribbean music in Britain, it’s the best”
– The Sunday Times

More information on the 2018 festival will be available soon.
