The Art of Football

The Art of Football will be a celebration like no other

The Beautiful Game will inspire some beautiful art in 2018 as Liverpool, this famous footballing city, celebrates the FIFA World Cup in some unusual and unexpected ways.

The Art of Football season will provide an opportunity to examine the popular culture of football from an artist’s perspective, bringing together writers, photographers, music and fashion representatives with football fans – and non-football fans – in one cross-cultural field of dreams.

A month-long season of celebratory events and exhibitions will kick off with the World Cup itself on June 14, not in Russia, but closer to home in the Baltic Triangle, the city’s creative hub, and will explore the deep-rooted culture of football.

It’s about the stories of real people, places and times that shaped the modern game. And it’s about the culture of football across the world, a compelling narrative that encompasses social aspects, money – and justice.

The city is teaming up with key partners Laces Out, Liverpool’s brilliantly popular celebration of sneaker culture which always has fans queuing around the block, Orb Events – the company behind the annual Liverpool Loves festival and other high-profile public celebrations, and Liverpool Art Prize-winning photographer Tabitha Jussa, who is curating the whole The Art of Football festival.

Both Liverpool and Everton football clubs are also expected to be involved in the season.

Head to the Baltic Quarter this summer and you will experience exclusive exhibitions, new commissions, never-before-seen works and performance pieces, as well as having the chance to get involved in seminars and debates.

We can guarantee you will see the nation, and the city’s, favourite sport in a whole new light – indeed in a way you never could have imagined.
This is one special seasonal fixture that football fans will want to make sure they have in their diary.
