The UK has no equal when it comes to pomp and ceremony, and Liverpool has become renowned over the past decade for its staging of big occasions. Put the two things together and the result is bound to be exciting.

A spectacular City of Liverpool Tattoo is being held for the first time ever in 2018, promising two days of brilliant bands and entertainment at Echo Arena Liverpool.

The Band of Her Majesty’s Royal Marines and The Band of The King’s Division are just two of those which are confirmed so far.

They will appear alongside the City of Liverpool Massed Pipes and Drums, Ulster’s Pride of Ballinran Flute Band, and bands from Spain, the Netherlands, and the famous Artane Band from Dublin.

And the spectacle is not simply confined to music, with international tattoos being known for their family entertainment and even novelty acts.
The City of Liverpool Highland Dancers and Innova Irish Dance Company are sure to delight crowds at the waterfront arena, as is the Juliana Bicycle Group.

There will be a total of three performances, with an evening show on Friday, September 14 and two tattoos on Saturday, September 15.
The history of the military tattoo goes back 400 years to Holland, where drummers would go out in to the town at night to ‘tap toe’ – the drumming alerting soldiers that it was time to leave the taverns and return to their garrison.

Tattoos became increasingly popular public spectacles in the 19th century, and some of the most famous in the UK include the Aldershot Tattoo and, more recently, the annual Edinburgh Tattoo in the shadow of the Scottish capital’s castle, which is the largest event of its kind in the world.

The City of Liverpool Tattoo will be an unmissable part of our 2018 celebrations.
