A brand-new event is coming to Liverpool this Christmas, as Skate St George’s prepares to take over St George’s Plateau with an open-air ice rink, Christmas market and seasonal food and drink.
Skate St George's is free to visit, with everyone welcome to soak up the festive atmosphere, browse the Christmas market and enjoy live entertainment throughout the season. For those looking to make even more of their visit, tickets will be available for the ice rink and selected additional attractions, allowing visitors to choose the experiences they'd like to enjoy while spending time at the event.
Opening on Saturday 21 November, the new event will transform one of the city’s most recognisable locations into a festive skating destination until Sunday 3 January 2027.
At the centre of the experience will be a 675 sq ft ice rink, welcoming skaters of all abilities to enjoy the ice beneath sparkling lights, accompanied by a festive soundtrack throughout the day and into the evening.
Alongside the rink, a Christmas market will bring the festive vibes to the city, serving up warming food and drink and plenty of gifts and treats. Whether skating with friends and family, making memories whilst enjoying our live music programme or simply stopping by to soak up the atmosphere in the heart of the city, there’ll be plenty of ways to get into the Christmas spirit.
Alongside the main event, Skate St George's will also launch Winter Windows, a city-wide schools art project delivered in partnership with Liverpool City Council and the Walker Art Gallery. Inspired by Charles Dickens' A Christmas Carol, pupils from across the Liverpool City Region will be invited to create stained-glass-style festive artworks, with 20 winning designs professionally illuminated and displayed throughout the event for thousands of visitors to enjoy.
Skate St George’s marks the first time Underbelly’s Skate experience has come to Liverpool. The award-winning live entertainment company also delivers Skate Leicester Square, which has become an established part of London’s Christmas calendar, as well as its long-standing programme at the Edinburgh Festival Fringe.
Tickets are on sale now, for the Ice Rink, priced from £11.50 for adults and £10 for children, with family tickets available from £38. Tickets can be booked at www.skatestgeorges.co.uk.
A newly unveiled artist's impression by illustrator Robert Ball, originally from Runcorn, offers the first glimpse of the new event in its landmark setting. Further details about the programme and wider experience will be revealed in the coming weeks.
