River of Light returns from 23 October to 1 November bringing 13 large-scale light installations to Liverpool city centre. This year’s theme, Together, celebrates the joy of connection and how light can bring people closer.

Make a date of it, gather your favourite people and explore the city after dark. From dinner and cocktails to playful experiences and cosy coffee stops, here’s how to make the most of River of Light 2026.

Dine Out on Castle Street

Spot The Anooki lighting up Liverpool Town Hall, then make an evening of it on Castle Street. Enjoy dinner at The Ivy, Bacaro or Mowgli, or head for cocktails at Neighbourhood, Liverpool Gin Distillery or Castle St Townhouse. Art, food and drinks? Sounds like a perfect night out.

Treat Your Tastebuds at NORD

At St Paul’s Square, discover LOOP, an interactive installation featuring six giant wheels. Afterwards, you can head to NORD for a delicious mix of Northern hospitality and Scandinavian influences. The perfect pairing for an art-filled evening.

Warm Up with a Hearty Bowl of Scouse

Nothing says autumn in Liverpool quite like a hearty bowl of Scouse. After visiting Liverpool Parish Church Gardens to see Today I Love You, head to nearby Ma Boyle's Alehouse and Eatery to enjoy this much-loved local dish.

Turn River of Light into a Fun Night Out

Heading to Williamson Square to see POP! by Gentilhomme? Roxy Ball Room Cavern Quarter is just a five-minute walk away. Challenge your friends to tenpin bowling, shuffleboard, pool, beer pong or mini-golf, all under one roof.

Make a day of it at the seasonal markets at St George’s Hall on Sunday 1 November. With more than 80 independent traders and local artisans, expect everything from handmade crafts and homeware to unique gifts, street food and sweet treats.
