Specialising in Chinese cuisine from the Tianjin region in China, the dishes by renowned chef, Dave J Critchley are out of this world. 

From the bar area to the main restaurant space, and with four private dining rooms; the Tianjin Dining Room, Chef’s Table, The Food Lab and the Wine Room, there are many options for you to plan the perfect evening out, whether it’s an occasion for two, or with a larger group of family or friends. 

To give you more of an idea of what Lu Ban is about we went along to see the restaurant and dining rooms, sample a few of their beautiful dishes and see what social distancing measures they have put in place to make it a safe and enjoyable experience for everyone. 


Lu Ban Bar and Restaurant has a beautiful open space with a whole host of safety measures implemented perfect for social distancing. Tables are well spaced, hand sanitiser stations are located throughout the venue, your server will remain distanced but always on hand to offer any help and drink orders will be taken from your table.

The restaurant has plenty of menu options for you to choose from. Serving delicious dishes inspired by the Tianjin region of China, your experience at Lu Ban will not disappoint. Menus include the main menu of course, banquet menus designed to give you a fabulous range of dishes, private dining room menus, weekend bottomless brunch (include bottomless Prosecco, cocktail of the week plus selected beer, wine and soft drinks), Little Lu Ban for children 12 and under, plus special offer menus with selected availability such as 2 courses for £25 or 3 for £30, Gin Sum/Dim rum for £30 (5 dim sum dishes and 3 cocktails), and Date Night Steak and Lobster Menu with 3 courses and a glass of Champagne for £49.50 per person.

Aside from the main restaurant the private dining rooms are ideal to enjoy the banquet menus for groups of six or more - perfect for reunions to celebrate missed occasions following the lockdown period.


Lu Ban’s Executive Head Chef Dave J Critchley’s mission to deliver amazing, beautiful and creative Tianjin inspired dishes to guests, with true flavours of the region.

A proud Liverpudlian, Dave’s culinary passion has seen him working in the industry since the age of 15, and having already run some of Liverpool’s and the North West’s flagship restaurants, his talent for Asian cuisine brought him to Lu Ban back in 2019, and in 2020 was hand selected as the final apprentice of world-famous Tianjin master chef, Master Wu.

Dave recently starred in the 16th series of BBC 2’s Great British Menu, where his passion for Liverpool was demonstrated to the nation with his menu inspired by and dedicated to the city’s innovators and free thinkers.



The Tianjin Dining Room is perfect for an intimate dining experience. You and your guests get exclusive use of the luxury room away from other diners.

The Tianjin Room has a banquet menu with 10 incredible dishes that can be adapted to suit your party’s preference and dietary requirements. Featuring the signature 5 Flavour Cucumber which is the first dish executive chef Dave J Critchley was taught by Chinese master chefs in Tianjin, its simple brilliance surprises everyone with its incredible sweet, sour, salt, spicy and heat sensations.


The Chef’s Table is a close-up dining experience like no other. You will have a rare insight into the workings of the Lu Ban kitchen with a front row seat to all the action. With your own exclusive access, you and your guests will enjoy dining from the exclusive Chef’s Table banquet right at the heart of the action. Chat with the chefs, learn some top tips, take in all the aromas and sounds, and savour the dishes Chef Dave Critchley and the rest of the team will prepare and serve right in front of you. 

The table can host up to 6 guests making it a perfect size for an intimate celebration. There is plenty of room between the table and the kitchen to keep everyone safe and socially distant whilst still being able to observe the action. 


The Food Lab is an informal private dining room with exclusive use for you and your guests. Presented in the style of a laboratory, the fun and chemistry class feel of the room is perfect for dining with friends and larger groups of up to 12. Expect glass beakers, food chemistry and even that skeleton you had in the corner of your science lessons in school! 

The room features a long white marble table with comfortable low back leather chairs.  Depending on your party’s requirements, you may have a Lu Ban chef join you to explain the dishes, ingredients and even help you finish creating your own Chinese feast!


The Wine Room at Lu Ban is perfect for groups of up to 14 people and is the ultimate in comfort and luxury. It’s set aside from the main restaurant area, with a huge window to separate the two spaces that can be discreetly closed off for full privacy. Backing onto the glass walled wine cellar, this room is a sumptuous space with elegant decor, a long dining table and comfortable leather chairs.

The Wine Room offers relaxed but exclusive dining experience ideal for families, groups and business entertaining.



Every Saturday and Sunday from 12 noon you can enjoy a fabulous Chinese bottomless brunch at Lu Ban. For 90 minutes, continual servings of dishes from the brunch menu are brought to you by servers, accompanied by a selection of bottomless drinks including Prosecco, the cocktail of the week, and selected wines, beer and soft drinks too. With a lively atmosphere filled with sounds from the DJ, the bottomless brunch is perfect for everyone wanting great food and drink with excellent value.
