Brimstage Hall Courtyard

Located across the River Mersey in picturesque Wirral is Brimstage Village, steeped in history it is the home of Brimstage Hall.

Experts believe that the historic building dates back between 1175 and 1350. When tBrimstage Hall was built, it was enclosed by a moat and a high embankment. It's first registered occupants were husband and wife, Sir Hugh Hulse and Marjorie Hulse, who on 11th February 1398 were granted permission to build a chapel.

Today the chapel, with it's vaulted ceiling and carved corbel is open to visitors. Rumour has it, the carved corbel shows a Cheshire Cat, possible inspiration for Lewis Carrol's charater in 'Alice in Wonderland.'

Today Brimstage Hall & Courtyard is a shopping centre where relaxed, countryside ambience is a welcome change from the hustle and bustle of larger shopping villages and the High Street.

We went on a Sunday in August. The car park was busy so we thought we’d found a gem but I think most people were at the maze. There were a couple of lovely eateries which were open and ideal for post... Read full review

Decided to visit Brimstage for some shopping. There used to be lots of shops, but there were very few now. It looked a bit unloved and forgotten. Hopefully things will improve after Covid! Read full review
