Halton Castle is located in one of Liverpool City Region's neighbouring counties of Cheshire. It's a short journey over the Runcorn Bridge via car or London Midland train.
It's one of the two surviving Norman castles in Chesire and stands on a rocky hill overlooking the Mersey River above the former village of Halton. This location is a clear choice for it's elevation and potential as an observation post.
At Halton Castle, there are a number of fascinating features such as the sally port, garderobe and tower. The castle itself is opened for special events and tours several times a year, however it is accessible to walk around the castle walls at any time of the year.
Norton Priory is pleased to be managing the historic site of Halton Castle. Please visit the Norton Priory website for events including Heritage Open Days in September.
Less than 30 minutes by car from Chester, Liverpool and Manchester.
From M56, Junction 11 or 12 Join the circular expressway system. Take the signs for "Northwich, Chester M56" and then the take the signs for "Halton Village and The Brow". Then follow Halton Castle brown signs. Exit at the Halton Brow junction and head up the hill to Halton
