England's Golf Coast

Liverpool city region is a world-class destination for golf. Within its boundaries sits England’s Golf Coast, home to 12 of the finest golf courses in Britain. With no less than seven courses in the ‘Top 100 Courses of the UK & Ireland’, the concentration of championship golf available is unparalleled.

England’s Golf Coast is home to three Royal Links courses and numerous other naturally beautiful golf courses. There is Royal Birkdale in the stunning coastal resort of Southport, set amid spectacular sand dunes, which has been voted the number 1 golf course in Britain. Royal Birkdale has staged no fewer than eight Open Championships and two Ryder Cups, and is deservedly among the very best golf courses in the world.

Royal Lytham & St Anne’s in Lancashire staged the 2012 Open Championship. This, too, is one of the premier links courses in the world and Royal Lytham has played host to ten Open Championships and two Ryder Cups.

England’s Golf Coast also includes the fabulous Royal Liverpool at Hoylake in Wirral. Royal Liverpool is the second oldest seaside links course in England, as well as home to one of the best collections of golf memorabilia outside St Andrews.

The three Open Championship venues of Royal Birkdale, Royal Liverpool and Royal Lytham & St Anne’s have hosted The Open an impressive 32 times between them since 1897. Member clubs have also hosted the Ryder Cup, Walker Cup, Curtis Cup, Senior British Open, Ladies British Open, PGA Championship, English Senior Open and British Amateur.

Golf in the North West consists of more than just the three Royals, however. There are in total 20 of the most naturally beautiful golf courses in Britain on England’s Golf Coast, as well as the highest concentration of championship links courses in the world. These stretch from Heswall golf course on the Wirral right up to Fairhaven golf course, north of Blackpool.
