Sudley House is a unique venue run by National Museums Liverpool. A Liverpool Victorian merchant's house where the art collection is displayed in its original setting. George Holt began collecting paintings in the late 1860s specialising in british art.

Highlights of the collection include paintings by Millais, Landseer, Turner, Gainsborough and Romney.

Sudley House also displays works from The Walker's extensive collection of fine and decorative art including superb examples of George Bullock furniture.

Sudley House is to close to the public on 4 April 2005 for about a year for refurbishment.

Improvements will include a new ground floor introductory display telling the visitor about the fascinating history of the house plus a new temporary exhibition gallery on the first floor.

The exciting £700,000 project will also see the exterior of the red sandstone building repaired and redecorated, improved access including the installation of a lift and a new conservation-standard heating system.

Interesting history of this former Liverpool merchants house, a little gem slightly of the beaten track but worth a visit. Not too big to tour around there are sometimes events on. Read full review
