About

Disco legends, Boney M, featuring Maizie Williams, are set to take the top slot on the Barclays Main Stage at Pride in Liverpool this weekend, replacing Samantha Mumba, who will now not be able to perform at the festival due to difficulty with travel from the US.

Throughout the 1970s and 1980s the Caribbean foursome were renowned for their unmistakable mix of reggae, disco, funk, gospel, soul and rock producing an endless stream of unforgettable, sensational hits including ‘Daddy Cool’, ‘Rivers of Babylon’ and ‘Rasputin’.

Their live show now reflects the magic of longest-surviving band member Maizie Hill’s days with Boney M. but with the added flavour of new, self-penned Gospel-orientated material, providing the right amount of nostalgia for a decade gone by, mixed with the place she's at now.

The Barclays Main Stage provide a platform for a host of local talent from across the city region, with performances from Trip Advisor’s Customers Choice No.1 LGBT venue in THE UK, Linda Gold’s FunnyBoyz, scouse powerhouse vocalist, comedy hostess and distant relative of Cilla Black, Filla Crack, who will perform with previous Vogue Ball winners, House of La Porta, Young Homotopia and Many Hands, One Heart.

There will also be representation from some of local LGBT+ venues, bringing OMG, The Lisbon and Superstar Boudoir’s best-loved performers and hosts to the Pride in Liverpool stage. Radio City and Hits Radio Pride Breakfast “Loud and Proud” presenter, Jordan Lee, will kick off the show, with The Guide’s Jay Hynd, making his sixth appearance on the main stage, also hosting throughout the day.

The Pier Head site for Pride in Liverpool will be open from 12noon and its stage, which has been programmed by Sound City, will spring to life from 1pm, as the city’s March With Pride arrives at the festival site following its journey through the city from St George’s Plateau.

Pride in Liverpool returns to the city this Saturday 30th July, starting with the annual March with Pride from St George’s Plateau to the festival’s site for 2022, the Pier Head on the city’s historic waterfront (12noon - 8:00pm).

The Pride in Liverpool event is fenced but is FREE and you do not need tickets to access the site during the event. Bag searches are in place for safety and licensing purposes only. All entertainment on site will be finished by 8:30pm.

As well as the Barclays Main Stage, Pride in Liverpool will also welcome the Film with Pride Cinema Lorry, sponsored by UNISON North West LGBT+ Group, which will be showing The Adventures of Priscilla, Queen of the Desert (15), Hedwig and The Angry Inch (15) and Cabaret (15). Tickets will cost £3 and can be purchased on the day or in advance online. As all films are rated 15, proof of age will be required.

MARCH WITH PRIDE - TIMINGS AND ROUTE

March muster begins from 10:30am with the march departing from St George’s Plateau at 12 noon, following speeches and performances. The march is planned to travel down Lime Street, turn onto St John’s Lane and proceed through Queen Square, along Whitechapel and Lord Street, before moving through Castle Street, then turning right and heading towards the Pride Quarter, traveling along Cook Street and Victoria Street, then turning left onto Stanley Street.

Once the march has passed along Stanley Street it will turn left down Dale Street and Water Street, crossing The Strand at Water Street before entering the Pride in Liverpool festival site (1245pm - 1pm). Please note in a changing city centre the route may need to be altered slightly on the day - if you’re marching please follow the instructions of march stewards.

ROAD CLOSURES

A number of road closures will be in place to facilitate the March With Pride and Pride in Liverpool festival taking place safely. While these closures are in place no vehicle movement will be possible (except emergency services).

The main road closures will be in place from 11:00hrs until approximately 14:30hrs. We advise all businesses to avoid arranging deliveries between these times as access will not be possible until the road closure is lifted.
